Part Time Flying Instructors Question?
Hi
Are there many part time instructors out there. Interested to know if you are part time instructing and working full time in another industry. How do you manage doing both, do you just fly weekends and work during the week. Keen to hear about your different experiences, as I am considering trying to get part time weekend instructing work while I work full time in another industry.
cheers

G'day mate,
I work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday instructing and work in another industry on Monday, Friday and one day on the weekend...the other day on the weekend I also instruct depending on my roster for the other job. I find out over a week in advance so am able to organise students accordingly.
It works quite well as I can accomodate both weekday and weekend students and get quite full days when I'm there as I can organise students into 3-4 days...it means I get a good balance of time on the ground for odd jobs, student files etc but am not sitting around idle for hours on end. Luckily my boss is really good about it all and all the instructors are given flexible hours to work around other jobs...which in the end makes for a much better working environment than at my previous jobs where instructors are made to sit around for 50-60 hours a week even if there's not a scrap of work to be found...everyone's a lot happier.
I do however, work 7 days a week...yea that seems a lot but my other job is pretty cruisy and pays well. It's a good mixture at the end of the day and keeps things interesting too.
Hope that helps
