Floatplane Endorsements
I'm wanting to do a floatplane endorsement and am after some info.
a) Where in OZ can I do a endorsement ? On the eastern seaboard that is.
b) What can I do to prepare beforehand ?
c) I have no experience on floats but am looking at a job flying Twin Otters on floats, should I do my initial endorsement on a single or twin?
d) Are single or twins easier or harder on the water to handle?
e) Are there any recommended texts that I can read up?
Any other info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Contact Melbourne Seaplanes if your down south. They operate a C185 float plane out of Williamstown. Also try Strathan in Tassie they operate a number of float planes... Hope this helps.

I'm just finishing my endorsement with Melbourne Seaplanes now. I highly Recomend them. The Text I have used is Notes of a Seaplane Instructor, by Burke Mees, I had trouble finding any other recomended texts. If you do it in Melbourne you will recieve a binder full of notes as well. The whole thing should take you around 6 hours to complete. There are operators in many places on the East coast, you won't be far away from one. As for a twin or single, I hear twins are easier to manouvre on the water, but not sure where you'll find a twin on floats in Oz. If you already have a tail wheel endorsement you'll find the float flying a little easier. Could you PM me with the info you have on Twin Otter float operators? Cheers.
Good luck with it, you'll have a ball.

Gday fellas
I spent nearly 3 years barefooting it in the ‘dives a while back. If you are going to go you need one of two licence options
1) FAA with AMES on it … or..
2) ICAO with Float endorsement and Twin Otter.
There have been some issues in the past with Aussies not having the twotter on the licence before arriving in country.
Having said that a mate with almost zero float time got hired just before Christmas. He had nearly 3K hours and a lot of multi turbine before he got there.
Good Luck
Enjoy Bandos

Twotbags,
I have nearly 4000 hours of which more than half is multi-turbine, most of it command.
Dont have any float time, but have previously done a twotter ground school not that, that means much.
Any ideas on who to call?
Have emailed with no response at this stage?
Cheers, HH.
