How many VOR's and NDB's in Aus?

For the Airservices folks. How many NDB's and VOR's are there in Australia. I've checked your website but I haven't found anything specific. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi BM

From the 'Australian ATM Strategic Plan' (2003):

282 NDBs
93 VORs
75 DMEs
10 TACANs
35 ILS installations

Hope this helps!

Add 1 for Nowra
Darwin has 1, not two.
Hobart & Launceston, 1 each.

So that's 3 ON, 1 OFF, equals your missing two!

Thanks Bevan...I did a quick run through in my head, but never realised Sydney had 6....and missed out a few military ones. More than I thought in any case.

You've missed Hobart and darwin only has one....but a good summary. cheers.

Cant wait till we have a decent solar flare and knock out half the GPS satellites.

NDBs are there for a reason (I hope) !

NDBs = P.O.S.

I too cannot wait till NDBs = 0

(Maybe ok for lighties to use, not ok for large commercial a/c.)

Whilst it may have been a satisfactory aid in its day, it is surely time that technology and safety took priority.

The only place NDBs are good for ATIS is at YPAD...... because the hills shield the VOR and the ATIS frequency hasn't worked for years.

Talking ADS-B

The real answer is ADS-B. Technology for the cockpit, big and small and technology for the air traffic controller.

There is a general tendency worldwide to get rid of NDB's. An error in my view. Cheap insurance but as the old saying goes, the beanies know the cost of everything but the value of nothing.
