Pilot License South Africa

Hello Everyone,

I am US Citizen working on a project in South Africa. I was thinking about starting my Private Pilot license here and than transferring hours to the USA.

Does anyone have an idea of how difficult that would be? Or how easy?

Thanks!

The FAA will issue a private certificate based on your SA license. It is a paperwork exercise after the SA CAA validates your license to the FAA. It would only be valid while your SA license is valid. Or you could just get a regular FAA certificate by passing the written and passing the checkride. Many od the SA hours would count towards the FAA requirements, you would need some instruction by a FAA CFI prior to the checkride.
