Mointainair Country Club North Carolina

I've just recieved a brochure on the Mountainair Country Club in North Carolina. It has a runway 2,875 ft long at an elevation of 4,500'msl.

Does anyone have any experiance in operationg into and out of this strip. Is it genarally windy round the mountains. The landing runway RWY32 has a good upslope and the departing runway has a good downslope.

The brochure says citations get in, but was just wondering how tight it would be for a CJ1 or CJ3.

It is advertised here in many aviation magazines. I haven't operated there, but have operated into Hot Springs, W VA. Much the same kind of place with about 5,000 feet of runway. A corporate GII crashed going in there on short final, inside the FAF, and impacted 700 feet BELOW field elevation.

Yes, winds are a factor, along with snow and icy surfaces in the winter. The visual illusions on approach is a little disconcerting. About 3000 hours in the Citation tells me 2800 feet would be very sporty most times, especially considering the penalty of going over the edge there.

Well, a CJ1 at min weight would probably be OK, but the question begs itself why? The place is far more suitable for something like a Piper Meridian or a PC-12.
