Get a life Novelist!!
If the guy needs a house for his family who cares. Dont tell me, you are going to ignore him because he is only an airman. Some people are capable of switching off once the day is over. More to the point why are you posting this on a forum.............GO AND B****Y ASK HIM!!! you never know he might be very civil and give you a nice and polite reasoned answer.......not that you deserve one.

I know of at least one Commonwealth air force that does not discriminate between any rank regarding the availability of MQ's. A family with 3 kids is a family with 3 kids and has the same housing requirements no matter what rank Dad or Mum is.

Gentleman Aviator
Seem to remember the reverse in early DHE days at BDB HQ. Some childless Wuperts from Aldershot were put into Blighters AMQs.
And it was the Blighters wot complained. But I don't know BB if they got a

Rank-consciousness might have a bearing on the subject, but I'm not sure 'class-consciousness' comes into it.
It's important to have good neighbours and pretty irrelevant what they do for a living.

I do believe that rank-consciousness should not be the issue here... I do have concerns however about how these things are done.
The danger is always that stations will just do their own thing and then it become accepted as local policy. By not telling personnel what is happening it just leads to rumours, speculation and discontent... There is obviously a very good reason why this guy has moved into the MQ he has... I don't think that DHE are quite that stupid... but that is no excuse for not letting people know that something unusual is going on - apart from the fact that the guy himself must feel like a fish in a goldfish bowl!
By that I don't mean that his circumstances should be put on public display, but a general statement that we are now all in the same boat, quarters are short or whatever.
All too often Air Force policy is being changed by stealth... its about time we were actually told what is going on.

No such thing as OMQs and AMQs any more - they are all Services Families Accommodation. They don't belong to the MOD any more, of course. DHE just chose to photocopy all the APs that the families Officer had and put their own signature blocks on. There is no reason why Wg Cdr x couldn't live next door to SAC y; Annington homes wouldn't care a jot, as long as they got their cash and could sell one of the homes at the end of the year.

At some units, DHE allow surplus OFQs to be occupied by SNCOs or junior ranks should they wish to. Surely this has to be preferable to Annington homes flogging the properties to a housing association who then allow your local drug dealer to move in ??

It would be nice if DHE operated the same rules for both officers and airman. A good friend of mine (a Chief Tech) has 3 young children and a 4 bed house almost twice a large as mine. I also have 3 young children but because I am an officer my rank is more important than my family’s welfare so I am only allowed a small 3 bed.
After 20 years ‘er indoors’ and I have had enough. It’s time to go.
