NATO vs Russia
Ah, the irony, the Russians, and the SSSR think/thought the Baltic should be treated as an inland sea with the Baltic States able to prevent passage of warships from non-Baltic states.
To exit the Baltic a ship has to sail through Danish or Swedish territorial waters, however due to the Copenhagen Convention of 1857 the Danes don't have the usual powers over civilian ships in territorial waters. Historically Denmark claimed that they had only ceded the land on the eastern side of Øresund to Sweden in 1658 and not any of the sea.
Lloyds List had a story back in November last year about Denmark looking at using insurance and safety grounds to stop the flow of Russian oil as a lot of tankers were sailing without the mandatory protection and indemnity insurance, and also many were old and not considered to comply with enviromental standards. It's a case of finding loopholes in the Law of the Sea.

Between the F-35 weapon integration and now this - who actually is making the d3cisions in the USA, LM or the DoD?
🇺🇸🇩🇪🇮🇱 “Our MLRS Family of Munitions cannot be integrated into the PULS system – if Germany was to opt for PULS they could not gain access to our missiles,” -Lockheed Martin
Technically this decision rests with the US Department of Defense, but are they going to overrule LM?

To be fair, we can always do better.
Although its easy to point to the holes, we do have a nuclear deterrent, two carriers (light on aircraft conceded), we've regularly fielded a brigade sized battle group on high intensity operations, possess a credible amphibious capability and world class SF, and a much smaller GDP.
Ursula VDB reduced the German military to some kind of militia.
The Military and CS are a bottomless pit when it comes to expenditure; they are never going to push back and say 'we've gt everything we need'. My tax bill was a telephone number in terms of digits last year, and I'll be happy with increased spending to ensure European security, when I see our neighbours, who are nearer to the threat, taking the issue seriously. So well done Germany, but the EU has a long, long, long way to go.
