The offence of "Misconduct in public office" was never "brought in" - it is a common law offence!

If he was a Chief Inspector in a management position in 2006 he's unlikely to have given evidence recently, so they'd be dragging back through 20 year old cases. It'd have to be something big to be worth it.

This'll be a link to the case of the unqualified 'police pilot'.

From the time he applied to be a PC to the time he applied to be Chief Constable he has lied on his application form but at no point did anyone (not only those doing the vetting but also colleagues) notice that he was too young to have served in the navy at the time of the Falklands war?, so how many other applicants lied on their application forms and were accepted and are now serving Police officers?
Unfortunately people always remember bad things that people do such as this Chief Constable who lied, Wayne Couzens the Met officer who killed Sarah Everard or those Met officers who shared disgusting messages on WhatsApp rather than the majority of officers who are good people who risk their lives daily to protect us.

That was Flying Lawyer (Tudor Owen), (formerly?) of this parish!

The quotes in that article came from him on PPRuNe!

Let me make a few predictions in this case
- Walt will not be prosecuted as "not realistic chance of conviction"
- Police force will withdraw his pension
- He will go to court to have it re-instated - and will win

Poor choice of wording on my part! But even Common Law offences come from somewhere (albeit in this case an 18th century case!)

I believe he announced on these forums when he was appointed a judge that he would no longer post as it would not be compatible with his new position.

Where are Ted Hastings and his AC 12 crew when you need them?

For non-UK readers:The above were fictional police corruption investigators in several series of a popular (at least with me) tv series

The story will naturally pivot to examining all the catastrophic vetting failures, criminal charges for various acts of fraud following, Rick Adderley facing his own Police fraud investigation down under and the general reputation of Police being in the U bend thanks to Adderley.

Is it striking just how many utterly inept people make it to high public office in the UK!

If we take Prime Minister as the highest (not highest paid!) public office, then we currently have a choice between two such examples! Well to be fair so do the Americans!

Seem to be quite a few morons at the helm of large businesses too - decision making seems execrable quite often.

We are entitled to expect state employed civil servants, like police officers, to be selected, trained, appointed and regulated by a competent authority. It would be completely wrong for politicians and business owners to submit to such control. They must obey the law of the land, but not some other mysterious authority. That is what happens in totalitarian states. Sure, it means you get good and bad, but the bad have a way of being weeded out sooner or later. That's OK with me.

I know the general public has scant knowledge of military stuff, but I am amazed that nobody did the sums about his DoB and his South Atlantic Medal......

During the hearing Paul Fell who fielded the initial complaint DID get told Adderley was rushed out into service to help in the war effort. He has checked his DOB as Sept 1966 and was fully prepared to accept this as fact. It was only when Adderley sent an email to "confirm" the conversation and switching his story did Paul Fell start to cover himself and do a 180 on the planned cover up.

Not shocking really when you consider Paul Fell was on the original selection panel that approved Adderley's interview and previous experience.
