Ukraine War Thread Part 2
By the way, In light of my visit to Gurkha, do you think the U.S Marines really enjoy serving on one of His Majesties ships?

SLASRAAM
I see that MBDA have produced a surfaced launched ASRAAM for Ukraine. I wonder if our own MOD would order any. Not an all weather capability but still a good one.
BV
BV
The question is, BV, can they be produced in volume?
Saturation air raids: this was something that we had to deal with in the USN which the Aegis System was designed to handle, but until the CEC went on line it was recognized that the ASM barrages (Kelp, Kitchen, et al) had the potential to overwhelm the AAW network and pickets. Hence the Phoenix/Tomcat/E-2C airborne ideal was to "hit the archer before he releases his arrows."
But that was for air launched missile barrages in the War At Sea scenario. It appears that Russia is combining air and surface launched missiles in these mass raids/attacks, which leaves defensive measure susceptible to saturation at a given point.
I predict more of the same, if the Russians assess this attack package as a success.

At least 30 people were killed and more than 160 people injured in Ukraine on Friday in what Kyiv called the biggest missile bombardment since Russia began its all-out invasion of the country in February 2022. Russia struck the cities of Kyiv, Odessa, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Lviv using “nearly every type of weapon in its arsenal” and hit homes and a maternity hospital, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the BBC. Ukraine’s air defenses were overwhelmed by the attacks, and an Air Force spokesperson said Kyiv had never seen so many types of missiles used at once.

It’s looking like Russia is planning mass launches on the 1st and 2nd.

Do you blame them, I don’t, Ukraine has played by the rules while their cities and population has been decimated.

Is this one on the ballot for President of Russia? Looks a lot like his cousin Vlad.
