Ukraine War Thread Part 2
That is absolutely not the purpose of blanks. They are to provide weapon and ammunition handling practice, and to make some noise in combat exercises. Unless using it in anger you should never point a weapon at a person for any reason, whether it is empty or loaded with blanks, BFA fitted or not. The reason is exactly because of the risk of incidents like the one shown. The place to practice your shooting is on the range.

Actually the main purpose of BFA is the pressure. The nozzle has the smaller diameter in order to create enough pressure in the barrel so a machine gun can function at all (to reload another round). Without BFA you could fire just one blank and the gun would jam immediately.

And it wouldn't jam, it would simply stop firing, manually cocking it would chamber the next round. ![Wink](https://www.pprune.org/images/smilies/wink2.gif)

I did a demos, to young soldiers, off the damage an SLR 7.62 blank could inflict. I fired it into a bean tin containing water. It passed through the other side squirting water up to 3 feet! It'll definitely take out an eye or even pierce the skull.

Well, obviously the French army didn't share your opinion at that time, as a lack of the BFA would have been immediately obvious. One report I read quoted a senior officer as saying that procedures were followed in that blanks must not be used closer than 10m , and no spectators were closer than 10m.

Now I have no knowledge what type of blanks you are referring to, but the blanks I've worked with are 7,62x39 with a tip made of balsa wood. The BFA stops the balsa bullet, breaks it and guides the pieces sideways. Having a balsa bullet hitting you at 700m/s from 10 meters from the gun would certainly kill you, not to mention 5 to 10 rounds in a burst. And that is exactly how the blanks are treated, as lethal as any round.

Our witch from the east, Margarita Simonyan, shows a close call on her secure house, apparently the "Elite" compound Nr Moscow has its own Pantsir air defense system protecting it.

It appears some of the propaganda bull is not getting through in Moscow and they know what is going on in Ukraine.
Russian armor column destroyed. Any idea how did Ukrainians accomplish it? Some incoming rounds are off but the precision is astounding. Is it just well calculated and timed shot, or laser guided by drone? Mines? Other means?

Indeed, and amusing as well.

Ecce Homo! Loquitur...
70 Ukrainian military men (pilots and ground staff) will undergo F-16 training in Denmark. They are the first wave, followed by the second and third, Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat said.
"The other group are young pilots, actually yesterday's graduates, who will go to Great Britain, where they will undergo a longer program starting with basic English training and knowledge of Western light-engine equipment with the transition to fighter aircraft. This program will last longer, possibly up to 2 years, but this is the perspective that awaits us.”
