Ukraine War Thread Part 2
Ecce Homo! Loquitur...
As previously noted the Ukrainian current strategy is to send company sized attacks forward to get the Russians to use their artillery - and then use counter-fire to destroy them.
The Russians are reported to have few if any counter-fire units of their own left and are bleeding MLRS and artillery.
The following is a current Russian milblogger reporting on one small area of the front where they are having to pull back and surrender ground.

Ballsy stuff - it looks like they got lucky as the Russian response was initially pretty chaotic.

Lucky for the Russian crew as they didn't get immediately creamed and the Ukrainians made a series of mistakes allowing the Russian arty to get to work. It was a crazy move by the tank crew but it threw the Ukrainians off balance and halted their advance.

The trouble is there could be a myriad of reasons why they stopped from mines to obstructions, we just do not know.

Ukrainian ingenuity building a drone proof pill box for their arty
I would have great sympathy for the unfortunates in this video, if they were Russian troops being attacked in Russia. As they are part of a criminal invasion of a sovereign state, then the sympathy is that they were stupid enough to not realise their leaders are criminals who do not care about their survival or not. These aren't Soigu, or Putin, who are the people who should be in a trench being attacked by improvised munitions.
The world is not just, but it could be, if the Russian troops turn their arms on their true enemy, they are easy to identify, they are the ones standing behind them wearing officer uniforms, and drinking tea in peace within the walls of the Kremlin.
Conscript continuing the "SMO" in Ukraine has about a 50:50 probability in their serious injury or death. The same conscripts turning on their officers en masse have about a [ 5%/20%/50%] chance of being killed, and a ~[25%/50%/75%] chance of removing the cancer from the Kremlin. By now, they are well aware of the actions of the blocking troops, and those troops will likely not be shooting unarmed comrades coming back for their officers. The Russian army did this in France in 1917, and again later the same year in Russia. A revolt may still be a very remote probability but it is the option with the safest outcome for the conscripts.

This shows the quality of what Ukraine is up against, and also is indicative of those in charge. It surprises me that half of the Russian military come conscripts haven’t simply legged it. Drunks lead by fools.
From the New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/29/w...raine-war.html
Standing on a bridge overlooking the road to Odesa’s main port, Nina Sulzhenko surveyed the damage wrought by a recent Russian missile strike: The House of Scientists, one of the Ukrainian city’s best-loved buildings, was in shambles. The mansion’s destroyed gardens spilled down over a ruined residential complex, and burned bricks lay strewn across the sidewalk.
“I feel pain, and I want revenge,” said Ms. Sulzhenko, 74. “I don’t have the words to say what we should do to them.”
She gestured toward other buildings in various stages of ruin. “Look at the music school! Look at what they did! The fact that those who live next to us, and lived among us, could do this to us — we can never forgive this. Never.”
Hers was a common sentiment in Odesa this past week after a series of missile strikes damaged the city’s port and 29 historic buildings in its Belle Époque city center, including the Transfiguration Cathedral, one of Ukraine’s largest.
Odesa plays an important role in the mind of imperial Russians, and especially President Vladimir V. Putin, who views it as an integral part of Russian culture. But if Mr. Putin believed that Odesans would feel a reciprocal bond, he could not have been more mistaken, residents and city officials interviewed this past week said. Especially after the recent spate of missile attacks.
“The Odesan people are tired,” the city’s mayor, Gennadiy Trukhanov, said. “People are tired of uncertainty, tired of anxious nights, of not falling asleep. But if the enemy is counting on this, he is wrong. Because this fatigue turns into the strongest hatred.”

Ukrainians attacking Russian positions and taking prisoners, one Ukrainian wounded and applying a tourniquet, though it didn’t look to bad in the scheme of things.

Well, can anything be more telling as to how the war is going, Putin asked directly how he see’s Ukraine after Russia’s victory, gives an answer in that he appears to be unable to visualise a Russian Victory.
