I love the way they say the possibility of abuse, rather than the certainty…..
Potentially significant news for Russian volunteer orgs providing the military with drones and other supplies: the State Duma adopted a law facilitating public procurement for the war in Ukraine. This means that the MOD units can now freely purchase what they need for cash.
"The military units will be able to conclude contracts in any form when purchasing goods/work/services from suppliers - this will speed up urgent small purchases, eliminating paperwork and red tape. Cash settlements will be carried out in cases where there is no technical possibility for non-cash payments."
The language used in the official TASS announcement open the possibility for individual units and formations to establish quick contracts for "goods and services" that may include any number of products that are in demand at the front.
One issue to consider is the possibility of an abuse of this quick purchase system - the use and circulation of cash in the Russian military is sometimes associated with fraud by more senior officers up the command ladder…..

Where can I sign up for that scam? In a country of graft and corruption, removing any semblance of control on expenditures can't end up sinking the ship can it Skipper? Capt Smith? The ship is unsinkable isn't it? Full steam ahead, forget about Farraguts cry, damn the icebergs!.
With unfettered arming of the troops that Lord F's Troops, (AKA "F-Troop") have surpassed ruthlessly for 100 years or more, (well, his predecessors included) and opening up a flood gate on toilet paper (roubles) after alienating the rest of your supplicant global apologists, by burning, blowing up, plundering and otherwise messing with their rice bowls (er, wheat... ) these little stressors to the good health and housekeeping of the federation can not possibly go wrong. It is about as safe a plan as playing hopscotch around Bakhmut's minefields, generously donated to the children of Ukraine by their mates from the Evil Empire next door.
I foresee a run on popcorn. A nice vin rouge should help with the viewing pleasure of the Federation undertaking seppuku.
A collapse in the fall and more generous offerings might be out on the time line, they have to have let open the local special needs gulag.

Russian troops ambushed in Klishchiivka, it looks like a pretty much textbook operation. Did they miss with the first missile, or did it bounce off? They couldn't have stopped at a worse position and it looks like he reversed over his own men.

Latest version of the KA-52 now in use in Ukraine. Big article showing the enhancements.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zon...copter-appears
he first photos of a new version of the modernized Ka-52M combat helicopter have appeared in Russian service, with the strong possibility that it’s already participating in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. While the basic Ka-52 Hokum has become a signature weapon of the Russian campaign, sustaining both heavy losses and inflicting a steady toll on Ukrainian armor, this iteration of the improved Ka-52M version had not been seen anywhere until last week.
The Ka-52M in question appeared in three photos posted on the usually well-informed Fighterbomber channel on Telegram. Among others, this channel conducts fundraising and gives Russian airmen involved in the Ukrainian war flight suits, shoes, radios, navigation devices, first aid kits, etc. In pictures posted on July 14, airmen present some of the gadgets they received against the backdrop of the new version of the Ka-52.

Re the VDV being ambushed in Nutty's #3287 - I know they were planning to do an assault, but nowhere in my own training do I remember being told: "ambush right - debus right..." I know that the shock of close contact is overwhelming, but these are - or in this case, were - Russia's best troops.

It appears that Ukraine has also developed a reconnaissance, patrolling, search and rescue, mine countermeasures, as well as maritime security and combat missions. of their suicide drones which will come in extremely handy with comms on board, heck I could see it even being flogged to lifeboat services to get into places they cannot get a conventional boat. With that range it makes you wonder if they couldn’t preposition them in areas the Ukrainians know Russian ships are launching missiles from.

Russia's hysterical response to 2 drones striking Moscow
So ever predictable, the dark tower erupts in hysterical response to 2 drone strikes of Moscow, as always proving that HYPOCRISY is a term that doesn't translate into any meaningful concept in Russia.
If Russia considers 2 drones to be a terrorist attack, what is 3,000+ missiles, drones, murders, 1 million+ child kidnap cases and over a trillion in damages from their actions of a neighbour they have breached dozens of treaties considered to be? Russia business as usual?
Russia isa The Terrorist State

From the New York Times ( they are worth the $6/month IMHO; 5 article free/month) https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/07...a-ukraine-news
The main thrust of Ukraine’s nearly two-month-old counteroffensive is now underway in the country’s southeast, two Pentagon officials said on Wednesday, with thousands of reinforcements pouring into the grinding battle, many of them trained and equipped by the West and, until now, held in reserve.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details of the campaign. Their comments dovetailed with reports from the battlefield on Wednesday, where artillery battles flared along the southern front line in the Zaporizhzhia region.
And Igor Konashenkov, the Russian Defense Ministry’s chief spokesman, reported a “massive” assault and fierce battles south of Orikhiv, a town that Ukraine holds about 60 miles north of the Sea of Azov. Vladimir Rogov, an official appointed by Moscow in southern Ukraine, said the assault involved Ukrainian troops who had been trained abroad and were equipped with about 100 armored vehicles, including German-made Leopards and American-made Bradley Fighting Vehicles.

More on Russian tactics and morale…
There's another interesting account from a Russian officer, sorry long post again, but he tells what led to Ukrainian success in Klischiivka, including Russia bringing up unprepared troops from various units into an area, describing them as disorganised. He also mentions relentless shelling and drone attacks. A long excerpt here but you can read even more by following the links:

Can Russia become the second best army in Moldova too?
Having raised the ire of (much) of the rest of the world over their leaders seem to think that they retain the right to interfere where, when and for whatever reason their criminal gang members decide is a good thing. Moldova has little in the way of military capability, and precious little in the way of friends, so they may have some decisions as to who they prefer to spoon with. Their location is problematic for all involved, they are essentially landlocked and have a pretty riled up bunch that don't have much time for Russians on one side, and a NATO member on the other, who have recently had a ship damaged by Russian stupidity... wondering how Russia intends to ever get a turret launching tank to their new theatre of Russian largesse.
Lavrov should be practicing his responses to the ICJ more than spreading what is left of Russian military might, (or might not) further afield. A bunch of IL76s etc or even A320's coming out of Russia and trying to cross Ukraine or Romanian airspace are not going to be received with merely rude gestures. Moldova is 164km up the Danube from the Black Sea starting with the Ukraine holding both banks at the river mouth, and half the bank for the next 164kms. Clever hat cammo might be in order. Flying over NATO territory is going to be fun, and over Ukrainian for ~100nm, some of the heaviest defended airspace the world has ever seen, that should be good for the troops mental health. At least Russia has the VDV. Ooops. Russia had the VDV, they sent them off to Bakhmut to be exterminated as they had the temerity to object to the incompetence of the RuAF and the chief clown.

Russia now reportedly banned civilian traffic through the Arabat Spit. This due to "localize security threats to the population, military and other objects".
