I've been asked by several people in my threads to take a shot at the maintenance & logistical impact of lots of new Western weapons on Ukraine's military.

Specifically, does Ukraine have the experience & personnel to move it, repair it, maintain it right now?
Logistics 🧵

Seems a coordinated move…

BREAKING: Poland is considering a request from Ukraine to donate its German-made Leopard main battle tanks, a senior Polish diplomat says - WSJ

Finland becomes the first country to announce they are willing to send German-made Leopard 2 tanks to 🇺🇦

Head of the Defence Committee of Parliament, @anttihakkanen, says Finland would give the tanks if other European countries will pitch in with their own Leopards.

Danish politicians specialized on defense issues are positive to the proposition of 2 Finnish MPs for Denmark to join Finland in a envisioned European-wide project to donate German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine

Denmark has 44 Leopards, Finland has nearly 240.

What is the danger to NATO if some of this front line kit ends up in Russian hands?
Quite an intelligence coo for Russia.

On the topic of Poland, Russian conscripts are allegedly being told that they are going to fight Polish troops that have invaded Ukraine:

Many captured troops mobilised by Putin have been misled to believe they are defending Russia from Polish troops, Professor Michael Clarke tells #TimesRadio.

This question has been asked many times in this thread. The 'reassuring' and repeated answer mentions all old kit, (nothing 'frontline') with any super sensitive updates stripped out. I am sure they could use any useful chips though.

During the winter months there is an ideal time for Ukraine to rotate its troops through rest and training, while strong defensive positions and artillery are fixing the Russians in place and depth strikes are making it difficult for the Russians to prep for future operations except within their own borders.

By supplying Ukraine with Leopard, Bradley, AMX and more HIMARS now it gives the Ukrainians the ability to carry out manoeuver warfare in the late spring / summer.
They will have the ability to position forces quicker than the Russians can and strike in depth, bypassing strongholds, deep into Crimea and all of the Russian MSRs, then pull back and deny Russia the ability to retake the land with long range tubes.

By handing over this kit, Europe is saying its had enough of this nonsense...Putin, get out, or strike with a bucket of sunshine and we are waiting for you.

Finland operates Leopard 2 A4’s, A6’s, Poland Leopard 2 A4, A5 and PL’s, so none of them are the latest up armoured and more capable models. So you are looking at 1992 models. They are up to A7 plus now, I would imagine the A4 will be the version for commonality

Russia has horrible demographics already now and this is the last time when there are at least somehow available men for a large war. Add the numbers of men who fled the country and calculate the missing children which will be never born. Russia will face another generation of lonely women (within 100 years) who have no chance to find a husband which would father kids.

This is battlefield at Bachmut reminding us of WW1 massacres. Putin destroyed Russia's future for another 50-100 years.

See the surplus of women already now and declining numbers of Russian population.

Looks pretty balanced re male/female to me, with a slight excess of males in 2021, although that will obviously decrease. Is this population of child bearing age or what?

That kind of systems where designed to be used in the battlefield, no use to keep them only for exercises

The graph shows a surplus of females in older ages and a small surplus of fighting age males. Vodka consumption in males may explain the surplus of older females as well as the usual longer female lifespan.

The more interesting lesson from the graph is the significant drop in birthrate in recent decades. Poor economics depress birthrates.
