Quite reasonably because, if I'm reading my Chinese place names correctly, the crash location is more than 600 miles from Taiwan... And about 5 miles down the road from a major PLAAF airfield. Occam's razor would suggest something other than a shoot down!

Agreed. Looking at Google Earth, the city is over 400 nm from the mainland coast, let alone Taiwan

If I were in the PLAAF leadership I would be very worried that Taiwan has a tracking radar/SAM combo that can shoot down fighters at a range of 600 miles or more.
