Real facts.
1. The ships in question are not warships. They are auxiliaries - very important ones nonetheless, but still auxiliaries. At least half a dozen auxiliaries I can think of have been built overseas.
2. H&W hasn't been a functioning shipyard since the early noughties and entered administration in 2017 with a staff of just 79 people. All the blether about 160 years of shipbuilding is nonsense.
3. The single biggest risk in delivery is not the financial performance - important though it is - but the people, or rather absence of them. To build those ships they'll need something like 700 or 800 skilled people. The whole point of the contract with Navantia was that they would help build that skills base and that "rebuilt" yard would then start to contribute to the National Shipbuilding Strategy, not by building lots of commercial ships, but by building limited numbers of one-offs - initially government vessels (eg research vessels, sealift ships etc). They are crunching through developing people - but that's a work in progress.
4. What is never mentioned is that there isn't a UK alternative with sufficient capacity - certainly not BAES or Babcock who have their own - less public - issues.

I agree with you . It's really a name and nothing else. The current owners are skilled at milking every subsidy known to man in N Ireland (which is not illegal) and I suspect that they're hoping to bring substantial political pressure to bear on the Treasury to get that loan guarantee. Suspect they'll have more difficulties with Labour, who try and steer clear of NI politics. Might be different if the Sinn Fein First Minister goes into bat for them tho'.
What is needed to build the workforce is continuity of orders- not haggling over ever hull but multi- hull, multiyear contracts if possible. I seem to remember you recently referred in passing to the closure of Portsmouth 10 years ago - not the wisest move in retrospect - or even at the time.
