Good question - the approach speed also seemed rather high. I once had a trapped brake pressure indication in a Hawk T1 at Chiv., but through system knowledge and exercising the hyd systems, was 99% sure it was just an indication snag. Which is what it proved to be on landing; however, I used max braking after touchdown, using the logic that if there was a faulty brake valve, at least max braking would minimise any swing caused by differential pressure. After I stopped on the RW, I shut down after asking for a tow back to the fightline; my instructor later queried why I hadn't just taxyed back.... With a possible brake snag? I don't think so!

BEagle, you still didn't comment on

but I would have thought that if the T.P.G. had shown such residual pressure, he would have held the wing up as long as possible, as did your friend with the Spitfire.
Wing up and cross wind?

Did you bake hedgehogs on your webber then?

It is not unknown to request crash fire assistance for the taxi phase on leaving the runway in very windy condx. in tail draggers.

They can drive alongside working as a windbreak.

Maybe that is what he had in mind.
