I have a flight with American Airlines on "09/17/2015 departing at 02:17p"

Fortunately, Expedia knows it's on "Thursday 17 September at 14:17" so I'll stick with that unambiguous arrangement

Re Basil's story, ISTR that if ATC pass a pressure setting of less than 1000Mb/HPa, they have to add "hectopascals" to avoid precisely this kind of confusion. We are also expected to read it back just as they say it.
