Harriers go on to 2030
The way it goes
It does seem like a lot of organisations where the rewards are for people who don't do what is effective but what is seen to be effective by other people - other people who have no insight and are only going to be able to understand after it's too late.
I've read "Fighter" by Len Deighton and if that's to be believed (it seems quite realistic to me) then Air Chief Marshal Dowding is one of the supreme heroes of the age and was mistreated but not, thank goodness, before he had pretty much saved the civilised world. Sir Keith Park has only just got a statue and when I look at these things I an blown away by the thought that all the people walking up and down past them probably have no idea. They go to the films and watch Ironman and a whole lot of fakes instead.
If that can happen then what else can one be surprised at?
