For you to presume that there is no US economic interest in the SCS is an error. Trade with that general region is becoming more important, not less, and has been so for about a decade.
By direct economic interest I meant there is no substantial US interest in the S China sea. there are a lot of interests in places like Singapore etc but out at sea? I repeat I can't see any support for a war with China in any US party over their current actions. Taiwan - might be different - but maybe not................
