Iran Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz
I know that Seismic Data as good as it is....can still result "Dry Holes".
Unless you are in some place like Saudi or Nigeria where one can almost stamp a foot and find oil. In fact in the Niger River Delta....where the majority of the Nigerian Oil comes from....is covered in oil if one believes the news reports.

500 barrels.....
Excuse the pedant in me.....isn't a barrel is roughly 205 litres. 500 barrels a day runs out at just over 87 metric tonnes. That's not a lot of oil in my book, when you compare it with what comes out of the North Sea, even after 30years+ production.

SASless,
The holes weren't dry.
As for Nigeria. What a fun place to be. Particularly such salubrious locations as Warri and Port Harcourt.
Done Saudi, and many other locations.

Glenmallen Visitors
Well,
I am predicting Glenmallen shall be receiving visitors over the next two weeks. My guess is A Type 45 or two and one aircraft carrier, sorry, helicopter carrier. Wonder what else will be with them; mine counter measure vessels and ASW Type 23's hopefully.

This thread is loosing its way but there has always been a Mine Counter Measures presence in the Gulf and my thoughts are that they have been working overtime recently.
The Royal Navy has maintained a four-strong force of minehunters – presently Sandowns HMS Ramsey and Pembroke and Hunts HMS Middleton and Quorn – in the Gulf for the past five years, using Bahrain as the hub of its operations; the kingdom is also home to the Senior Service’s regional command centre, the UKMCC.
Add in Escravos, Eket....and a few other places in Nigeria.
Despite being a smart ass....the point I was making about the amount of oil in Afghanistan is there is so little that it could not possibly have been the "reason" for our military operations there as was suggested. There shall always be that fringe bunch that see that as the sole reason for the USA to do anything...as that is a popular notion amongst those that just cannot abide anything American when they post on the internet.
Common knowledge proves the link between the Taliban and Al Qaeda and the fact the 911 Attacks emanated from the sanctuary provided to the Terrorists in Afghanistan by the Taliban and other groups/tribes/war lords.
Yet....that same fringe element will adamantly cling to the Oil theory despite all the facts, photos, videos, evidence, and confessions of those involved. There is more oil in Trinidad than Afghanistan...and we have not invaded there yet and it is only three hours away by jet plane. A fact that in my mind invalidates the "It is all about Oil" fringe elements mindset!

PTT: once again, we Are (present tense) Americans, and our nation began as a colony, in the Americas, then separated from the colonial master. Our history, from Jamestown to present, is studied as American History. The continued immersion and participation in global trade, initially as mostly a commodities and raw materials provider, is a matter of the historical record.
If you don't care for seeing that as a continuum, it matters not.

As we are on the North American continent....makes sense we are "American". The fact the place was occupied by indigenous folk prior to the arrival of the White Man....it would seem our lineage goes as far back as recorded history...but of course we will be told British recorded history is older I guess.

So you take on the nationality of wherever you happen to be now, do you? Or are you suggesting that you were a tourist, or perhaps illegal immigrant, in the lands of the various Indian nations?
Codswallop. You're desperately reaching for justification.

Mine? I wasn't alive.
Within a generation or two of arriving in the New World, you might be surprised to find how strongly people on the western side of the pond tended attach their loyalties locally. A great many of them left for opportunity, and to be quit of the stultifying culture and restrictions on the west side of the pond. Room for a man to breath, in America.
If you were on the West side of the Blue Ridge mountains in, say, 1720, you'd likely find the denizens there scoffing at your notion of loyalty, or even self identification with British anything.
Funnily enough, in the mid Atlantic colonies, no small number self identified as Dutch and German.
See again, American History.
Apologies, Courtney, this is a tangent to a discussion branch from me and shy talk regarding what American interests are and have been, which leads to how such interests influence policy, and thus why we Yanks bother about in such exotic places as the Straits of Hormuz.
I'd personally rather go to Rio.

Would you American chaps mind awfully if we were allowed to rule you again?
We could totally ruin your country and bankrupt it as the United Kingdom is.
We would certainly stop you from doing all those dangerous things, such as allowing the good guy to be armed to protect yourselves. In the UK only the criminal element have the right to be armed.
Terrorists will have more rights than non terrorists, people who work will not be allowed to keep their money. After all it has to all go to politicians, corrupt businesses and to those people who do not work and won't work, along with immigrants.
We will destroy your education system by producing unemployable graduates, who want to be employed by companies, but not to work.
Is that a done deal then?

Edit: or was it tongue-in-cheek?!
