Will The R.A.F Still Be Recruiting Pilots After The Recent Cut Backs?

Hi,

I hope I am posting in the correct area of the forum first of all.

Secondly, can anyone shed some light on the current status of R.A.F pilot recruitment? Obviously the government has made a lot of cut backs lately, and a lot of them being in the forces, so if any one has any information of thee status of the recruitment I would love to hear from you!

Thanks
Paddy

Well Paddy, if the average career in the crabforce is 12 years they'd all have left by 2023, then they'd have no pilots at all...

You go figure if they'll still be recruiting in the future.

Bejasus! You weren't thinking of applying, were you?

But more seriously, fewer and slower is probably the answer, but recruiting, certainly.

Paddy

Take a look at the 'sticky', 'OASC candidates & wannabees' for info from the horse's mouth (or sometimes the other end of the beast.......)

Good luck

Thanks for the replies guys, I see what your saying Agaricus bisporus, and yes I am thinking of joining, but when hearing stories about the R.A.F only taking on dental nurses at the moment, i thought i'd do a little research! i think a visit to my local recruitment office is in order!

Thanks Again!

Pilot recruitment is frozen until 2013, given your age it seems unlikely that by the time it is open to everyone [albeit in very limited numbers] you might well be too old to apply...

For the record, there are more than just dental nurses being taken on at present, but whenever a trade or branch opens it is closing almost immediately as the required number of aplicants apply. Oversubscribed is an understatement.

The RAF cannot have enough (female) Dental Nurses; when I was a Halton Brat (1971), we were detailed by roster to attend the Dental Hygienist Training School, to act as test jobs for the lovely girls.

I spent many a pleasant hour with my head nestled in the bosom of a delightful popsie, as she toiled to give me a Hollywood-standard smile. However, on occasion, the plan went awry & I would get some monster whose employment prior to the RAF had clearly involved frightening pigs to death at an abattoir.

This onerous duty would come around every few months; I suspect that we Boys had the cleanest teeth in Christendom - clean enough to eat with, almost...........

2023, following the success of the FTSA manning with airline pilots the RAF had switched all its transport types to airline manning by 2020. Weapons systems were to be flown by NCO WSOp out of a permanent facility in the defunct air defence bunker at Buchan. With the ceasation of Tornado operations and the increasing cost of pilot training for the single remaining type it made economic sense to disband the Typhoon force as well.

What a brilliant turn of phrase! Love it

Fortunately I never met one - all the fang farriers at the Covert Oxonian Aerodrome were decidedly from Babe-alonya!
