Post Night Flight - BBC1

Any one else watch it?

I thought it was great, though rather sad. Where did they film the old Lanc scenes though?

Yes - I suspect that it was perhaps somewhat disturbing to many WW2 Bomber Command veterans, as the flying scenes were rather 'brutally realisitic'. Excellent technically though!

I guess the filming was probably done near Coningsby but also at East Kirkby (a few miles to the east) - where the 'other' Lanc (i.e. not the BBMF one) does the odd engine run and taxies up the runway. I think that's the aircraft which used to be 'on loan' as the gate guardian at Scampton back when it was a proper bomber base, not infested with rapberry ripple aeroplanes!

Most of the ground shots were the farmer's Lanc, which did some fast taxi runs for the film. I remember seeing it being dismantled outside Scampton when I was there for the AIC at CFS in about '88. I thought that would be the last I would ever see of it but they have done a fantastic job bringing an old gate guard back to life, if not airworthyness.

It would be interesting to hear what the Bomber Command veterans thought of the programme. Any out there on pprune?

Soft shirts with attached collars 1939-45? I don`t think so. That was about the only thing which really clashed that I noticed. Rather too many Sergeants though, particularly WAAFs. Perhaps they couldn`t find any LAC/SAC badges.

All the Lanc taxi and static shots were indeed at East Kirkby (more details at http://www.f4aviation.co.uk/Hangar/Justjane/Justjane.html )and the final scenes were shot at Metheringham, some twenty miles north-west, an old Lancaster base where the tower stands half-demolished.
