![Question](https://www.pprune.org/images/infopop/icons/icon5.gif)
Am I going to be at a severe disadvantage going into OASC without any flight experience whatsoever. I have been on AEF with CCF, some gliding and I've flown with my brother but in terms of actual experience I have none.
I know that a lot of people have a PPL before attending. The RAF say that it is all based on whether you have the aptitude for flying but is that all just a smokescreen or is it really the truth. I'd hate to think that I have been wasting my time trying to get fit for this if I am not in with a fair crack of the whip.

Not at all.
I did mine having been in a CCF Army unit and passed first time. Remember the O and the AC bits have quite different objectives, you must want to be an officer not just a pilot. You can regress after leaving Cranwell!

I went to Cranwell with no flying experience whatsoever - it can be done; any flying you have done will be a bonus though! Having a PPL is great but not a pre-requisite, more useful to you are the following...
Aptitude - definitely,
Good attitude - you need to be keen (and seen to be keen!),
Officer qualities - don't get caught somewhere you shouldn't be!
. .Best of luck!

Re the above letter...

At least not until you have finished Cranwell. Then does not matter anymore - in fact can be quite a career step!

Charlieboy,
Don't be too worried about not having a PPL. That just means we only have to teach you to fly, not reteach you to do it properly !
Oh, good luck.

Re: Officer qualities "...don't get caught!" I know one bloke who won the sword of honour many years ago. He admitted once (in his cups) that he attributed his succcess to rogering the Ass Com's wife. Presumably he did a good job and got 10/10.
