Unhappy

If 101 merge with 10 won't that reform 111? But they were Fighters, rushing hither and thither with dash and panache, not mean and moody Bombers intent on crushing the Reich or gentle and dignified transporters of fighting men and machines. It IS sad, but at least those beautiful Vickers aeroplanes will still be flying...

And there was me thinking that 111 was still there at Leuchars flashing about the skies in the all electric flick-knife along with 43 sqn.

Well, sorry 101 but it will have to be you that goes. The VC10s when to 10Sqn bexcause of the 10 - it looked nice and neat. Take a 1 off the end of 101 and what do you get............

Besides, 10sqn were there first, ner, ner, ner, ner, ner!

Wink

Easy. 10 on the port side, 101 on the starboard (OCU), a la Sentrys at Waddo.

A whisper has it that the last person to propose such a thing had his ar$e chewed from on high! For 'twould seem that carefully calibrated leaks from a concerned senior ally about the idea that was being formulated successfully reached the ears of one of it's staunchest opponents who then 'had a little chat'....he'd had a similar conversation with the erstwhile unlamented 'Thrombo' a year or so earlier, sources indicate.

Probable squadron folding would surely co-incide with intro of FSTA? So 10 can have the 10s and 101 the 767s?? Oops - sorry Simon, the new AAR platforms....

I have memories of when 101 was a Vulcan squadron in the early '70's and a lot of very drunk officer type people singing "1-0-1 is Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful" etc...

If it is to be retired then it would be nice if the ceromony could be attended by a flypast of some of the types flown...

Lord Flash

If it makes 21 binary why not add the 4 and call it 214? the first Tanker Squadron. Seriously though twould be sad to see either number go.

214 was supposed to be the nameplate for the VC10K tanker squadron - it beacme 101 instead. Some of the original GEs' tools are still engraved with 214 - and there's a particular VC10 document which still has '214' in it as a memento.

Any VC10 folk know which one.......??

I know at one time the compass was set to 214 deg in a photo in one of the aircrew manuals but that was some time ago.
