Heigh ho, just another day, up to 40000' to see off a Bear, then back to base in time for tea and medals - and Cross Roads on the telly... Might even be some crumpet if I'm lucky.

Dear mum,
Here's a terrific snap of me in all my flying kit. To be honest I'm actually not quite on Lightnings just yet, but my Chipmunk is still being repaired in the hangar after last week's wizard prang. When it's fixed the CFI might let me go for my second solo...
Love, Algie
PS, please show lovely Doris next door the pic but don't mention the Chipmunk.

The RAF PR effort got rumbled when it was made known the Lightning Pilot was in actuality a member of the Regiment who had a photogenic countenance and the same IQ of a real Lightning Pilot.

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could

Now what was his parting words again, yes “the fuel gauge is directly proportional to the throttle and the drag chute is inversely proportional to altitude”...no hang on, where’s my bloody note book.
