Can anyone tell me whether it is possible for two single girls, ex-university students, to plan a vacation in Dubai, sharing a room at one of the "beach" hotels?
Would they be allowed in on a visit visa?

Well,it depends where you are from,If you are from the UK,you might not need the sponsor. The asians definitely need it.In case you book your stay in advance in on of those hotels in Dubai than they can arrange your sponsorship.
Have fun in Dubai..
I recommend you visit on ly from Nov to Feb,summers not a great time to be there.

Overwhelmed by the response, I eventually managed to get through to UAE Embassy Visa Section. They told me that there should be no problem.
Unless of course anyone there knows different!
Gone are the days('80s), when every single girl entering UAE was a "driving instructor"!
