Thumbs up EY vs EK

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can offer any light on the current mood/opinion in both. I've applied to both, got through first stages etc. I'm airbus rated. I realised the EK offer is substantially better than EY due to higher base pay, live out and also most importantly the Provident fund (is there nothing similar at EY?). That being said I know Etihad is smaller and I spoke to someone that has worked at both that felt management is better at EY due to it being smaller. At etihad I'd be on the 320 at first, at EK 380, then probably both on the 350 would be the goal.

Also living in Dubai seems to have become very stressful as its just growing non stop, whilst abu dhabi is larger and calmer with the facility of being an hour away anyway from Dxb. EK currently not offering live out to new guys unless buying, whilst EY offering. Again financial is important but also management and culture. I'm happy to hear both sides of the story, I know there was a previous thread that went back a decade saying EK was much better. But not much update recently.

Thank you and safe flying.

First golden rule of the Middle East: head where the overall package is better. Company culture and management is the same in every corner of the region, so forget about it.
EK has an overall better package. You could consider EY just as a DEC A320. As a FO just aim at EK without any further thoughts.

Applied for EK. Decided to not apply for EY due to a seemingly lesser package and strong advice from those I know who suggested very long commands times.

Would prefer more insight on EY if anyone can offer it. Not interested in the 320 personally. Prefer AUH to DXB with a young family. Cheers.

It depends on which aircraft you’re looking for command. I think command on the A320 would be quick with expansion plans. But who knows.

They are starting a heavy recruitment campaign with road shows which they haven’t done in a long time. It shows they need to expand.

What are the command times at EY on the narrow body fleet at the time and what are the prospects?

Yes but allowance and days off are higher on the widebodies. I know few guys working there all are happy.

Are there opportunities for A320 Captains to progress to widebody after some time in the company?

60 odd wide-body orders between now and 2030. Would have thought this will present significant upgrade opportunity?

It seems as though the package at EK is better, especially the schooling allowance. Is there any reason to choose EY over EK?

Living in AUH vs DXB? Not sure otherwise. Culture and rostering better at EY perhaps? The sentiment from current and ex EK crew seems quite negative. Dunno.

There is no comparison between EK and EY.
