Cancer - time off for treatment

British Airways have advised a lady purser that I am very close to. That if she needs time off after her monthly injection to prevent a recurrence of her brest cancer. She must take unpaid leave. Is this ethical or legal? Would they treat ground staff in the same manner? Could some one answer please because the stress is not doing her any good at all.

Ain't she got a union? I thought there was a cabin crew union. It doesn't sound very reasonable to me.
