Loss of Class One Medical - Seizure
Thread Starter
Hi all,
So I'm still drafting a letter up to go to the CAA, but essentially I'm going to state that:
- I'm no longer on ANY medication
- I've not had any seizure since the event itself, and also no family history of seizures
- There is no mention of a 1%-Rule on the CAA's website, or even EASA regulations for that matter.
That's all I can really think of at the moment, alongside sending the various reports as well.

Thank you, I agree. I have sent you a private message to discuss further if that is ok.

Hi,
I thought I would update this thread, and also looking for some general advice as well. I have now since received the outcome from my Secondary Review a few months ago now, which essentially stated exacty the same thing but it was a more comprehensive letter which made it somewhat, although still difficult, to accept the situation I am now in. So, my question is.. what now? Well, various things have happened over the past 6-8 months since receiving these letters. I've now moved where I live and back in with family. I'm now, albeit not busy that much, undertaking training to become a ground instructor for new airline pilots onto a specific type of aircraft. I've also thought about maybe doing some ATPL instruction too. I'm enjoying this training role and this keeps me within the industry which is great, but ideally I would like something else as well to get involved with. That, and also time to myself which is equally important as well.
I do have a few questions though.. During this time that I am unable to 'fly commercially', my LPC/Licence has expired so I'm unsure whether or not I should renew that. I want to because it shows determination when it comes to getting the medical back, but I just want to gauge if this is a good idea (A type that's not really flown much in the UK..). What have others done in this 'lull period' of not being able to fly? It's definitely changed my outlook on things in life though that's for sure, and I certainly still have a fair bit to go.
Ideally I want to put myself in the best possible position from a medical and recency point of view when the time comes to get my medical back, the wait then to get back actually flying (at that point, I wouldn't have 'flown' for like 4-5 years), hopefully should be relatively short, one hopes.. What will be certain is, when/if I get my medical back is that it will come with an OML restriction on it.
Any and all advice would be hugely appreciated.
Kind Regards,

PT92 it sounds as though you've been very unlucky. Have they ruled out a conditional Class 1 medical with a co-pilot? Are you able to hold a Class 2 medical an at least act as a flying instructor? Good luck!

I’m unaware of a Conditional Class 1 Medical, can you please let me know what this is? My previous role was as a first officer. I can’t hold a Class 2 until 2027 they have stated. I did have the right/option to further appeal the decision but I thought hard about it, and essentially thought they would say the same thing, and it would further bring me down about the situation. So instead, I’ve accepted it and building myself back up.. slowly but surely.
As this is the first time I’ve ever had my class one suspended, it’s pretty daunting to say the least and you do feel a little lost at times. But utilising the PPS network and unions, it’s manageable. I also don’t have LoL insurance.
