Don't know the exact figures but you'll need 150 hrs for the CPL and I think 175 for instructor.

Pay is pretty low as far as I can gather. We're talking way under £20,000. Cabair offer about £17000 to their sponsored instructors and I think that's probably quite good as far as instructing goes.

I can't wait myself !!

ps, where abouts are you based ? I know of a v.cheap hours building oppurtunity in the south.

Cabair Sponsored Instructor Pay

£17000?

That mythical figure was earned by one (equally mythical) sponsored instructor who worked incredibly hard to get there. That was in the days when they were paid a very high basic salary with a bonus for extra hours and everyone in the city was rolling in cash. Back to reality, take half that number and add £1000 and you are in the ballpark. There do not seem to be too many sponsored instructors left with the demise of KLM UK/Buzz as the company sponsorship scheme seems to involve an inordinate amount of time in an ops position (good if you are young and VERY keen) and Flybe only put a handful of people through each year.

Incidentally Cabair no longer offer an annual basic salary to their direct entry instructors, pay is per revenue hour flown and I believe there is no retainer. Having said that the flying rate is well above the industry standard of £10 per hour (normally a £10-£20 retainer is paid on top of this).

It is possible to instruct without holding a CPL, but not for renumeration. You will, however, have to sit the CPL theoretical exams and hold a Class 1 medical in order to meet the requirements for course entry. Exams can be taken with the hours you have at the moment once you get your PPL, then you will need 200 hours (with 150 PIC). Check out http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/175/Lasors_Section_H.pdf for the full requirements.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha,

I haven't laughed this hard in a long long time. Cabair paying £17,000 per year, I am afraid you have fallen victim to the outrageous marketing claims of the Cabair Management. Having been through this scheme and earned a max of £11,000 in one year after hitting all the monthly bonuses and one of the quarter bonuses I am fairly sure that £17,000 is unobtainable.

Student in Debt is right, they no longer pay a salary, you get paid by the hour. So it is great in summer but will suck big bickies during the winter months when it is not unheard of not to fly for 2 weeks at a time.

So good luck for the next couple of years. YOU WILL NEED IT!!!! And be friendly with your local bank manager!!

Lies, Damn lies and management

AH - the figure was earned, to my knowledge, once by one particular sponsored individual.

In fairness even management were surprised!! Once the new salary was introduced even the wilder management predictions for non-sponsored instructors only just got upto £15k assuming all bonuses and targets with IRI restriction lifted (and lots of IMC students). He is, of course, revered by ops managers across the group as a shining beacon of both the Cabair work ethic and high standards.......

2 weeks? Given that you were once based at the winter sea-plane base you should remember what happens on the hill in the winter.......
