Is CTC McApline totally legit???

I’ve just received the email like a good few other people I’d guess, asking me to answer the questions and fax them back. Obviously, I’m as excited as everybody else is in my position but there are still a few questions that I have in my mind about the whole thing-

1.How many people are they looking to recruit, and are there actually enough jobs out there at the end of it? From reading other threads, it looks to me as if there are plenty of guys out there with fATPLs who can’t get a job for toffee. Surely it would be cheaper for Easy Jet and Thomas Cook to employ them!

2.Why £60,000? I’ve seen adverts for zero to fATPL courses from £22,000. I know that won’t include MCC and type rating, but surely that doesn’t cost £38,000!!

3. Finally, I seem to remember that Easy Jet made quite a large loss last year. What happens when you finish the course and there’s no airline at the end to employ you? I guess you join the pile of other fATPLs, but with a £60,000 debt rather than say a £40,000 debt.

I know I’m been a bit cynical about the whole thing, but surely other people must be asking themselves the same questions!!!!

Other perspectives and thoughts would be appreciated.

Right:

1) Thomas Cook and eJ will only employ pilots likely to pass a conversion course well. They only want pilots who will land the aircraft ok etc. Lots of fATPL holders there are.....how many of them are good enough?

2) £60000, well that is the cost I am afraid. It is their party, if you don't like it....lump it.

3) With CTC behind you, you will be employed by someone good. Believe me, I was and have NEVER LOOKED BACK.

CTC is great if you can hack the pressure.!

£60000?

Have a look at how much Oxford and BAE charge for their integrated course, It runs at about £65000. I'm sorry I can't see how you can go from zero to fATPL for just £22000, an IR alone costs at least £16000. I suspect the adverts you have seen refer to the cost of converting a PPL (plus 100 hours P1) to an fATPL.

Type ratings cost between £15000 and £20000.

CTC have certainly been helpful for a good many pilots out there and I hear that the people they produce are of very high quality.

Golf Tango - you have not done much research have you old bean?

1) & 2) Zero to fATPL CPL IR is going to cost circa £60,000 on any Integrated course. You may be guilty of reading adverts that promise 'an ATPL' for not-very-much without understanding its a foreign ATPL or that you had to start with a whole load of hours in the first place. As a CTC graduate you are possibly 10 times more likely to get an airline RHS. Thats what CTC does - they gaurantee their product to the airlines and allow them to try before they buy. They remove most of the training risk associated with hiring 200hr pilots and for that the airline pays them a premium.

3) No easyJet made quite a large profit last year. They announced interim Winter results a month ago that showed a loss over the winter. At the end of the summer they post another six monthly profit figure and when you add the two together you should end up with a net profit.

I'd fight tooth and nail to get on the CTC scheme because for some time now and for some time to come its the very very best way of attaining your airline career goal.

Good luck,
