the reciever2004,
Likely to be lower than 500 depends on the base, which can be anywhere in Europe.
Good luck and don't stay too long!

Can I ask how many different places Emerald fly to and are all the pilots UK based? Which is the busiest fleet and if you could choose which of the three types do you think would be the best to opt for?

Cheers

Budgies are geriatric (as is anything that still has lancaster instruments!), Sheds are knackered and the ATP's are basket cases.

Very few companies still operate these types, so there are better long term investments around.

Shed crews are U.K based as are most of the 748 fleet, ATP's are both European and UK based.

Emerald open day closed result?

Anyone get a reply from the Late August open day? I met two other applicants at Balpa at the weekend who didn't even get a dear John. Emerald open day, closed result.

I would'nt mind a job with Emerald, lots of good flying and experience. The only thing stopping me is that you have to pay for your own rating. No way matey. Why Why are people buying their own ratings, airlines will continue to expect this and many good pilots with slim cheque books cant afford it.I think we should wait a little while as I think things will change with the whole sstr. I really dont know why emerald cant bond you and reduce your salary per year to cover the type.

genuine info not bitter drivel!

I have read this thread and thought would give the guy asking for some advice, some genuine facts not some useless info from bitter ex-employees (shall I say that again slowly???)

1: HS748 is an ageing aircraft but it is a great aircraft for honing those hand flying skills. You also get a wide range of routes. Granted they do have a policy of basing people at different bases but this is not perculiar to Emerald, all airlines do it.

2: The ATP is a very good aircraft. It is a heavy modern turboprop. Routes are a bit limited but as has been pointed out as the next few aircraft come online the routes will improve.

3: I agree, they are slow at paying expenses but your salary is always paid on time in my experience.

4: There is a lot of positioning around the country that is true. Generally speaking you shouldnt have to do it on your own before a duty, if you do you should get a hotel room to rest before your duty.

5: I am not saying Emerald is a great company but also I am not saying its not. What I will say is that it is a good place to cut your teeth as it were. With regards to paying, that I cant advise. Personally I wouldnt pay for the 748 but I would for the ATP.

To the guys out there who are considering Emerald then I hope that I have given you a small insight. pls pm me if you want further info. You just need to ignore the bitter people out there.
Good luck guys

I'll say it more clearly then.

There are better ways to spend your money.

Actually I'm not bitter anymore, leaving Emerald has turned out to be one of the best things that has happened to me. Despite the way I was treated at the time.

How many ATP's are there at the moment that haven't been sold off to Atlantic?

I'll just re-iterate my comments from before, you'll learn alot whilst working for Emerald, how to really fly an a/c, how to have a laugh with the other crews and how to read CAP371 before you actually do any duties. (Just to check!!)

There's good stuff and bad stuff there, but as a first job it is great, but paying £12K for an aircraft type that gives you very limited options other than Emerald is not IMHO very sensible. Especially when a 73 or A320 rating can be got for not an awful lot more.

Are the rumours true though, I heard from a number of people that Mick is thinking of leaving? Is that the case?
