Faa To Jaa - Atpl

I know that this is not a new topic, but could someone give me an idea of how much time and money this conversion will cost and what is involved with the training? I have 3700 total 2600 multi-crew turbine 2 type ratings (one over 500 SIC).

A Fair ammount write to the CAA (*laughs*)...............

they should direct somewhere useful on their website............

i Know for lower experience people (c.1500hrs) they had to do all 14 JAA exams, CPL skills test and 15 hour IR conversion course and MCC before being eligible.

Dorosenco, I'm sure it's in your website, but how much time and money did you spend. If you don't mind me asking. Thanks EXMMD.

1 year and $15k. I got everything with minimums : first pass ATPLs, 10 hrs in Florida for CPL and 15 hours IR in the UK.
I think that I could have done it in as little as 9 months but I had to make some money for a living in between ...

good luck my friend ...

Ex-Mad Dog Driver,

I just went through the research and there are various ways of doing this. Correspondence or actual on site. You can also either do the course in Europe or in the US. Believe it or not the CAA and the DGAC were actually somewhat helpful, at least in providing me with names of approved schools.

Good luck

Exclamation Don't let them shaft you...

MD...

Am from Germany and did my flight training in the US.

After two years I had to go back and was faced with having to "convert" my FAA ATP. Actually, there is no such thing as a conversion. You always get credit for previous experience to a certain degree.
I did my training in Switzerland. ATPL distance learning for the theory, then took the written exams, after that a few training flights in a twin and CPL/IR checkride. Then MCC.

Have you taken a look at JAR-FCL 1.016 ? If not, you should.
Go to www.jaa.nl and get the entire JAR-FCL 1 as PDF download.
Those regs are the EU equivalent of FAR 61.

Even though the regs. are supposed to be standardized, every JAR country kinda handles things differently.

I feel that you, with your experience, could get away with only taking the exams ( if you have more than 1500 hrs on multi pilot aircraft ) without undergoing the training. Just get the Jepp manuals and access to a good question database and study yourself. Take the exams.

Then you simply take a checkride on an type that you are typed on. If you have more than 500 on a certain type they will even put it on your JAR licence.

Basically you can go to any JAR country, if you don't like what they tell you go somewhere else where the conditions are more favorable.

Information is everything-know the regs and don't get intimidated by the JARJUNGLE....

Just a question about this conversion. Lets say you have the 1500 hours pic and over 500 pic in a type, and also pass all 14 exams. Does that then give you a frozen ATP until you pass the check ride? I think many airlines will consider you with a frozen atp because once you complete their training and pass the ride you will finish the atp practical. Any input from anyone who might know this?

Svenfly,

No, you have to pass a flight test otherwise no license will be issued to you. If you have >500hrs on type you will be issued a FULL JAA ATPL with the Type Rating attached. Only glitch : you have to pass the skill test on type ! B737, A320, what so ever...

....Am in Germany but ain't flyin yet.

I just finished my JAR training 3 months ago. The job search now simply takes it's time ...

Looking for jobs in Germany would be my best bet since every company tends to prefer hiring locals.

UK is an option as well but they seem to have plenty of pilots of their own.
