Devil profile

The sim i used was EFIS fitted. Really great fun and I enjoyed flying it. The throttles seemed a little stiky though (bit different to the C152 i'm more used to!)

The profile at Cranfield was gatwick Seaford SID and STAR

The profile at Woodford was take off, General Handling, intercepting and tracking, radar vectors to ILS. Then swap seats, other guy has a go, then swap seats and basically a circuit culminating in ILS. Then swap seats again!

I've been in the holding pool since May now. Spoke to flybe the other week and have been told nothing on the horizon at the moment. Looking at buying a house so you can guarantee that i'll just get that sorted and i'll get 'the phone call'!!

good luck if you're going for the check. Best advice is enjoy it!

Impartial,

Don't be too down on the fact that you ar estill in the holding pool. I have a couple of mates who are also in the holding pool after having all of the relevant sim checks and interviews.

If you have been reading the press, you may have noticed that flybe have announced a lot of new routes for the summer 04. I work for the company and I know how hard we worked last summer, So I hope that we get some new guys this summer, to ease the workload on us all!!

Just keep on swimming, I am sure you won't be stuck in the pool for that long!!!

Dear Impartial,

Do you know if people with more than a CPL/IR get on with flybe?
It seems that most guys who are called in have less than 1000 hours..

Safe flying,

Don't think the low hours thing is necessarily correct, I believe that they have a mixture of guys with between 300-1500+ hrs in the hold pool. It does seem like most are from an instructional background and I think this is down to having had a few failed sim rides and tests due to lack of general handling skills.
This is the impression I got from the interview anyway.

As far as experienced guys getting in the only ones I know about have been some ex SAS people who were already Q400 rated.

Roll on 2004

sas

someone told me that they've had a supply of rated pilots from SAS and hence the recruitment hold up.

Bob

According to a friend of mine flybe. took 6 ex SAS Q400 rated pilots this summer to bridge the gap through the busy period.
I'm not sure wether they are employed on a short term contract with flybe. or if they are planning to stick around.
What I understand at the moment is that the company is moving guys around off the old Dash fleet and tying up the loose ends before external recruitement starts hopefully in the early part of 2004.
flybe. still have 10 Q400's to arrive over the next couple of years with 7 already on line.
So I know that as long as nothing goes "Pete Tong" there should be 40 RHS's up for grabs in 2004.

The ex SAS pilots have joined as F/Os on permanent contracts exactly as would anyone else joining the company - bottom of the seniority list as far as choice of base etc is concerned.

As jarjam rightly says training at the moment is primarily converting the dash 200/300 pilots onto the Q400 - but remember that the reason for this is that the next 7 Q400s are one for one replacements for the smaller dash 8s which are being returned to the leasing companies - so no huge extra number of pilots required.

As for the 40 F/O positions - Flybe operate with approx 5 crews per a/c so that would equate to 8 additions to the fleet - if that is the case no one on the operational side of the airline seems to no anything about it.

Devil the phone call!!

I had a phone call from DD this morning! Best Christmas present I could ask for! I start in January on the Q400!!!!! Good luck to all of you out there going for selection. I've still got to get through a lot more work and study before I can say I've made it!

Thank you to everyone who gave me help and advice, I hope I can keep the 'cycle' going and pass on what I have learnt from my experiences.

Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings and Best Wishes to you all for the New Year!

Well Done IMP

Congratullations IMP you must feel fantastic.
As you said what a christmas present to get.
I'm assuming that you are going to be Jur/Gur based?
Anyway enjoy your Xmas and new year and I'm look forward to getting a phone call in the not too distant future (hopefully).

Thumbs up

Congratullations IMP! Indeed must be the best Christmas present ever!

Do you know anything about how many people will be on your course? All low timers, or a mix? Where will you be trained? Probably based at Guernsey as jarjam assumes with you residency rights there?

Well, keep us posted now your in! Like to know how many courses they start. Hope to be in one of them myself soon!

And good luck with your training!

Flatbread

I suspect IMP is drunk under some table/woman somewhere and is unable to post at the moment.
At least it shows a ray of optimism for ongoeing recruitement with flybe.
When did you have your interview? mine was in May this year about the same time as IMP.
Still waiting patiently...............

Jarjam, I agree with you, thats what I would do anyway!

And indeed, it's good to see that some of us are getting 'the call'. I hope they will call more people soon. And not only for GCY (if that is where IMP is going).

I did my interview after you guys. First serious contact with FlyBE in June/July. So I probably have to wait a little longer... Very angry to start flying again!

We'll be there someday! It's only a matter of time!

Devil my reputation precedes me!!!!

Flatbread and Jarjam, I did partake in a few beverages of the alcoholic persuasion over the weekend!

i received all the paperwork yesterday and am in the process of form filling. Its going to be Guernsey and Q400, but apart from that all I know is to turn up for the induction week and they will be throwing me in the pool apparently!

I will keep you all posted as things progress.
