Licence Conversion

Looking for your thoughts-

I have been looking in to converting my ICAO ATPL licence to a JAR's licence. I read your forum from time to time and see how difficult it is to get your first job in the UK. It seems all the carriers are looking for type ratings on big equipment. The conversion is expensive enough, I am not interested in adding the expense of a type rating.

I am interested in reading some of your thoughts on the job market in the UK for someone with my experience. It is my hope and understanding that upon completing my conversion, I should have a full (unfrozen) ATPL with 3,500 hrs total time, mostly PIC on multi-turbine a/c <12,500lbs.

Thanks,

On Glideslope

I am in the late stages of converting an ICAO atpl to a JAA atpl.
Be advised that a full ATPL will only be granted with a valid multi-pilot type on your JAA licence. This means doing your "skills test" on a multi-pilot aircraft on which u have more than 500hrs.
In my case the closest sim available is in Paris and the CAA don't have any inspectors there until end of November so I'm being forced to do a SEP skills test then do a 15hr MEP IR conversion.
All this with over 1600hrs Twin turbine airplane >12,500 and 2100hrs twin-turbine helicopter.
It is a hassle!!!!!! Be advised.
Best of luck.

Folks, wait with any conversion of licenses. There are very strong rumors that a new licensing system in coming in Europe ! The new type will be a real license for all member countries and there are no "country specific specialities" anymore. Like an FAA for europe...shall be coming in 2006 - EASA license - its about time !!

Cheers, vdive

License Conversion

Hi All License Conversion Wannabees

I am also in the final stage of license conversion and the date for my LST (License Suitability Test) on ATR is further pushed to November (from April).

If anyone is in the same boat as me for an ATR test please do let me know. CAA had mentioned that there may be someone, but now that seems to have fizzled out. I have TT 5000 and 2000 PIC on ATR
