Has anyone done an assessment for DESO recently?
- Did you just get invited through the online application or was it by visiting one of the Roadshow events?
- How was the assessment overall?
- Do they fly you in to HK or it could be done elsewhere?
- What are your current hours/experience?
I am currently a CFI in the US, got around 550hrs and ATP-CTP done with written passed. Wondering if I stand a chance to be called.
Thank you)

Had my online interview today. also attended one of the roadshows. Types of questions were:
1. Self presentation - Tell me about yourself
2. Why do you think now is the right time to switch your career into the airlines.
3. Have you been to the roadshow? how did you feel about it?
4. At the roadshow you've received a good foundation of what it's like to work at Cathay. How would you feel if you'd be joining cathay as a pilot, is this something that you're looking for?
5. At Cathay we are looking for a long term career, we'll be looking at you as a future captain. It'll take 10 to 15 years to get a command here. Does this align with what you're looking for in terms of progression?
6. How do you feel about changing from your current job, flying multiple flights per day, to working as a cruise relief pilot and not doing any takeoffs and landings?
7. Apart from the job itself, the aircraft will be very different. How are you going to adapt to this change? do you foresee any challenges to transition to a jet?
8. We have a mixture of narrowbody and widebody aircraft. in terms of flight experience, what are you looking for and what do you prefer?
9. We are also considering pilots with more flight experience who might want to volunteer to a 2 year period at HK Express as a FO, flying regional narrowbody, and the return to widebody ops. If it was available to you, would you be open for that?
10. We've sent information about the salary package. Did you have time to read it? what did you think? would it work for you?
Keep in mind questions will vary depending on your answers and previous experience.
interviewer also gives you the chance to ask questions about the job, life in HK, training, selection process, etc.
in the end, the interviewer asks to check some documentation. Have all personal documentation and everything that you submitted in the application ready so you can show it on camera. This also includes the specific entries in your logbook needed for the license conversion in the DCA 607 form (eg. VFR flight of 300 NM o more with landings a 2 different airports). Make sure camera has good image quality and focus, and is set on a confortable location to not fumble around when trying to show the documents.
Hope this info is useful. Have a good day.
