Sorry if you misinterpreted my original post 404 T. I didn't mean to suggest that a LCC had to be based out of HKG. It just had to fly into there and take our customers, which they have done. Even with of our limited slots and higher landing fees. This was where the DFO was wrong.
The original article of this post made reference to the in-roads that no frills airlines are making in Asia.
When I flew Air Asia from BKK, it was at the gate right beside CX. I'd be surprised to find out they get charged less by the airport authority.
I agree with Liam G that LCC's have evolved and are more sophisticated than just no frills. Take a look at Jet Blue and Westjet in North America. Both have free tv, great service, and fly to primary (not purely secondary) airports. Have you seen JFK's new terminal 5 for Jet Blue?
They have a great product which we could learn a few things from.
I understand trying to find extra revenue sources, but at some point you reach the slippery slope and start to dilute your product.
I'll fly short haul any day on a LCC to save a few bucks. My bet is the growing Hong Kong mainland Chinese who wear fake Burberry shirts and cheap shoes will do the same.

Deadhead
Again, I think it is hard to differentiate between a true LCC and a new "non-legacy" carrier.
Big thread creep.... I have never flown Jet Blue or West Jet; what can we learn from their product?
