FI(R) Course Pre-Entry Flight Test
I think it would be fairer to say that it provides the opportunity to advise a candidate to go away and gain a little more experience in certain areas before starting the course.

in FCL-1 the pre-entry test is not part of the FI-course.
It can be done up to 6 month before. The FI-course is "fixed" at 30 hours (as far as I can remember), and the pre-entry test is not included in this.
So yes, they are separated.
But you can take the pre-entry and then start the FI-course 5 minutes after.
Just like you can take the CPL test and 5 minutes after do a ME-IR revalidation or any other JAR exam. This doesn't mean they are integrated ;-)
Enough said (I hope) about this. We all have different ways of doing it based on experience.
