Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Cool

Try tensing your stomach before you enter the manoeuvre (just like having a crap, but try not to crap yourself ). Like you say, you get used to it - do it more often!

Once flew with an instructor with a weak bladder. After 4 (fully developed) spins in a row, he had to pee in coke bottle which he brought with him for just such an occasion.. .. .Would have been okay but it was in a C150 and I was far too close to the action!. . . . [ 24 March 2002, 20:47: Message edited by: Gin Slinger ]

Well, the sick bags don't have "students only" written on them! Steep turns make me queasy even after 1000's of hours instructing....but I've never ended up wearing my lunch yet, so try looking at the horizon, opening up the air vents and thinking about something else.

I have been told, but I have yet to prove it, that tea made with fresh ginger, and taken regularily as with any homeopathic-type remedy, can help to reduce the effects of barf-inducing-manoeuvres. It also helps to combat colds. I have been drinking it all winter and so far, so good....., so fingers crossed for the twirly stuff

Ginger is a classic cure for morning sickness (Mrs. Evo lived on it for a while), so maybe it works for motion sickness too

Having got a few hours aeros under my belt I can honestly say - eat something first - and I dont mean chips. It is a ridiculous rumour that you dont eat before doing aeros - the motion sickness is far far worse on on empty stomach - dunno why but my aerobatic instructor always said have breaky m8. One bacon roll later I was always fighting fit to fly and certainly felt much much better than if I had skipped. In fact I would suggest its always better to fly with something inside - indeed when it comes to display stuff the CAA actually make sure that you have eaten something to make sure blood sugar levels are OK. oh yeah I dont recommend milk based stuff for aeros either... dunno why but seems to 'slosh' too much! . .. .Hope this is useful.. .. .Oh yeah...btw...G tolerance is something you get accostomed to with exposure - although with lack of exposure it wears off so you must keep regular (!) I dont really fell 2G much these days and find 60deg turns a doddle - even watching the student. However, I used to find them a real dog...2G used to make me feel bad...now its nothing - as for spin recovery you cold be looking at a 3G recovery there - depending on how bad it got!. . . . [ 26 March 2002, 12:54: Message edited by: FormationFlyer ]

Only time I've felt sick in a plane is the morning after a heavy session trying to teach steep turns and spin recoveries. Tip to instructors - don't fly the morning after 10 pints!

Only time my instructor ever looked pale was one morning going downwind at Biggin I pulled the mixture instead of the carb heat. I felt such a prat but I was assured in the bar afterwards that it happens more than you think. Not judging by the colour and expression on the face of himself it didn't. He put down his newspaper and Yorkie bar and paid attention for the rest of sortie.

Freighterman. .. .That made me larf out loud - in the middle of the library too! I know we all make great mishtakes, but I don't think even ginger tea would have cured your instructor's skin colour in that case! Cheered up my evening no end, that did - ta

Cool

Seeing your from Aberdeen, I suggest a sure way of curing your motion sickness is to clamp a pound coin in your teeth!
