Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Tip 1) Send your CV to every FTO in the country.
Tip 2) Be prepared to re-locate.
Tip 3) Be prepared for poverty.

Question

Peeps,

What is the current situation regarding instructors jobs? I might be starting on the modular route soon, maybe doing an FI rating depending on the the airline market

Are there any instructing jobs out there at the moment?

Cheers, JT8

Flight Instruction in the U.K. is seasonal. A lot of instructors get jobs early in the year only to be 'let go' 7 or 8 months later. Having said that, you can gain lots of hours and some very good experience during these months. If you ask enough company's you may be lucky and get a full time position but you wont earn any fortunes. Good luck whatever you do.

Red face

I recently mailed 13 flying schools within 50 miles or two hours drive of my place. I only got the courtesy of one reply (Well done Tatenhill Aviation). I expect the weather will improve and the chances of getting some part-time work will improve with it. Family commitments prevent relocation unfortunately.

13/1 ain't a very good ratio but don't be to dis-heartened, summer is coming and the prospects of work will improve. Don't be a stranger at the local school's and hopefully you'll be in the right place at the right time.
