pay again - a whinge
Does my club offer the lowest pay for part time instructors? It's the lowest that I know of but does anyone know different? It's the British Airways club at Wycombe which pays £4 per half day for being there and then £8 per flying hour (£9 if unrestricted).
I've just put in another pay claim and so am feeling particularly like the mug I feel like every time I put in a claim and get paid.
After being taxed, and then paying to get to the field, I barely keep my ratings current on what's left.
Anyone know, out of interest what the other school at Wycombe pays their part time instructors.
I don't have the faintest what most places offer in terms of discount on aeroplane hire. BA offers none to instructors but some to BA airline employees - is that normal?
I actually quite like working there, and I don't want to let my students down - but I also feel like a complete mug for staying and letting them get away with it.

I guess want you are getting is rather below average. It shouuld be in the £12-18 range with no retainer if part time.

It is the exeption rather than the norm, but if more instructors were paid at the Malcolm Dean level, I think there would be far more good career instructors.
Maybe there is space for a 'Terms and Endearments' style thread on instructors pay country-wide here.
I get £10-16 per flying hour P/T and that is it no perks, apart from all the tea I can drink.

I`m sorry to take this view, but if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys! The sooner Instructors stop working for peanuts, the faster the pay will reach a reasonable level. I think that you are extremely underpaid. I was instructing part time in Scotland (and let`s face it, its cheap to live up here!) and earning £35 per day retainer, £15 per hour PPL instructing and £10 ground school (at the time, having only 500 hours Total!).
If I were you, I would tell the boss how you feel, and if he is unresceptive to your grievances, then go elsewhere!

Yes us guys who instruct for our company flying club at Britannia Airways we charge our students just 6 pounds per hour!!.Then again we are a true none profit club run for the benefit of our members!!.Bit like a gliding club putting back what you take out.I run the Warrior based at Redhill/Rochester for the LGW staff and we pay an extortionate 66 pounds per tacho hour wet!!,Believe it or not we are the most expensive of our company clubs dotted around the UK Luton i beleve is still below 50 pounds per hour for their Mooney and PA28s.Don,t all rush you have to work for this great airline.

I met a chap once, he was 92 years of age
at the time of our meeting and at the outbreak of WW2 was to old for front line
duty with the RAF (he was 40 then).
He became an instructor in the RAF
He was a civilian flighing instructor and
said that flying instruction payed very
well between the wars
After the war the
salaries fell dramatically
Its all a matter of supply/demand
Airline pilots have BALPA
