Havent heard about info days is this in regard to recruitment?

What I can tell you is as of yesterday short haul crew are looking down the barrel of compulsory reduntancy. They have put out expressions of interest for leave without pay (12 months), perm part time, fixed term part time (12 months), rotation eg one month on one month off. Things at short haul are not so good right now so I wouldnt expect any recruitment into short haul within 12 months due to the above.

Interesting times......

While QF is cutting back on staff, I read in this weekend's paper that the Flight Centre is now looking to recruit more than 1500 staff over the next 12 months!

The Flight Centre's comment is that numbers are coming back and people are starting to travel again.

By the way, what exactly is a QF Info day?

Cheers

Hi vdd,

QF Info Day is the first stage of their interview process.

Generally, it consists of

- Thousands of applicants lining up for hours
- Applicants present their requested information (Yr 12 Cert, Senior First Aid, Responsible Service of Alcohol etc)
- Height measurement
- Short informtion presentation, followed by
- Short interview

It goes something like that, anyway. (However, in saying this - the process could change dramatically next time around.)

Like GalleyHag mentioned previously, I wouldnt imagine that there will be another QF Info Day for a good 12 months due to the overstaffing problem in Short Haul.

actually, the process changed last year ... even the year before last we dropped the 'line-ups' .... All cabin crew recruitment is now done via staffcv.com. People are assigned a time to attend the group interview ( first stage). The 'info days' were used a few years ago, but there were too many people (thousands) turning up, and people had to be turned away. So now if you are successful from Staffcv to the first stage, you are allocated (by email) a time for your group interview/ document & height checks etc. The whole process is now done via email, and via staffcv - there is no other way to apply.

And no, I personally dont think we will be recruiting again for some time.

The signs are still pointing to compulsory redundancies being necessary for cabin crew, and if that does happen, then I am sure those people forced to be made redundant will have first preference at cabin crew positions when they become available in the future.

Its a grim picture, but these are grim times!

don't wanna sound rude but i wouldn't trust a " tourism tafe " teachers "inside info", i'm sure barbara had her finger on the pulse 15 years ago with airline recruitment but nowadays not even QF now what they are doing ! Maybe she is brining in a guest flight attendant speaker from QF or something to talk to the class about the job or something?

I do know that the QFLINK is recruiting - Impulse,Sunstate and Eastern all got people on hold or about to conduct interviews.

REGIONAL IS THE WAY TO GO. That is where the jobs are.

QF unions deaf to Dixon cutback call

Unions have dismissed a call by Qantas ceo Geoff Dixon for cuts in staff wages and less permanent and full-time employees.

Earlier this week, Dixon warned that the airline’s labour costs would have to be cut with or without union involvement.

He proposed employing more casual and contract staff and raised the possibility of moving jobs offshore.

ACTU secretary Greg Combet told AAP that despite the tough aviation environment Qantas was one of the best performing airlines in the world.

Combet predicted Qantas employees would be aiming in negotiations for a pay increase, better job security and better security for casual workers.

Jewel,

What is the date that you have been given for this information day? Where is the location?

This had struck up some confusion around the place. I am led to belive that QF are cutting back staff and not recruiting.

And to add to the confusion, the media reported that QF are starting to "get back to normal", increasing flights internationally.

Does anyone no what the truth may be?

Hmm, be interested to hear what these days are about.

From what I've heard about, those who are on the short list from the last recruitment drive are still waiting to hear if we will be allowed to remain on the list past the 6 month limit.

The way things are at the moment, I don't think there is going to be any recruitment given that many QF employees are facing redundancies.

Anyway, keep us informed Jewel - I think its fair to say we all appreciate the information!

So i went & got a phone number off the lady who told me about all this. I rang the guy yesterday to ask about it and express my interest. Turns out the info day is only for aboriginal and indigenous ppl or whatever. Not sure how that works! Was told it was run by someone who deals with that sorta stuff but was not a requirement to be aboriginal. But when i rang yesterday the guy said it was. Anyway im as confused about it as you guys must be so just gona not worry about it.
Anyone who wants this guys phone number pm me. The info day is this wednesday or thursday.
