Hey nick, why don't you go on Sat, the walk in interview. Tell them frankly that you can't make it on Friday, they will surely understand it. It will be a pity if you didn't attend the interview at all.

EK Etiquette

Hi guys
Me too going to EK interview (cattle call ) on Sat in MEL - a bit unsure as to what to wear (even tho have been for heaps of interviews before- just not EK).

Classic Navy blue suit or caramel/beige suit?confused Any advice thougths would be apprecaited! maybe beige would be trying a bit too hard seeing EK f/as already wear it.

Good Luck all ppruners going on Sat am - See you there Nick MEL !Dont forget to get out of bed! and smile smile smile those pearly whites for the recruiters!

ek stuff

howdy boyz and girlz

Well i went this morning to the Stamford Plaza ( like many other melbournians i would say close to 600 were there as well!)

Waiting lines were extremeley long over 3 levels! So after waiting 1 hour and a half I decided to leave! There is always another chance down the track, and I'm in no rush at all! A few people turned up in jeans! (shock horror) As always there were a few nasty ones there checking out what people were wearing, and passing judgement! Hmmm not nice, with attitudes like that u wonder about those sorts of people!

I had the best feeling walking away, EK will always come back to Melbourne to recruit. Best of luck to my fellow ppruner I went along with u GO GIRL!

everyone else let us know how u went

cheeeeerrrrrrrrsssssssssssss

EK walk in!!!!

Hello everyone,

Well, well well, my big day with emirates has finally come and gone! well i thought i'd post some info about the day for those that are attending upcoming ek interviews ((especially for you qfmike )) as nick melb said there were alot of ppl, from what the recruiters told us there was in fact over 1000 ppl! Now according to the recruiters they had expected nothing like that, and therefore cld not accomodate for such large no's. So they therfore did not interview anybody other than the 20 ppl who had invitations(luckily i was one of these ppl), there reasoning behind this was that it wld be unfair to interview a few and not the rest, so they asked everybody to leave their cv and photos in order for them to be shortlisted back in dubai. this was really dissapointing for everybody, was so sad to see the effort that ppl had gone to only to be told they were not going to be looked at

well the interview process itself was very straightforward and easy, we watched the standard dubai video, and then asked q's, was all very basic, candidates just asking q's about life in dubai, pay, flights etc. outr group was then told to go on a two hour break, so as the recruiters cld sort out their walk in day dilema!! this was great bc it gave us a chance to bond and get to know each other which made the day quite fun and relaxing. when we came back we were split into two groups of ten where we had to have group discussions (this went for half an hour), all very straightforward eg; recruiter gives you a scenario, you have won a million dollars, now as a group decide what you will do with it. now as many ppl before me have stressed it's not what descision the group vomes to that is important it's the way that you interact!!!! very important to be DIPLOMATIC and DONT be the loudmouth of the group and DONT be the quietest in the group. Once this was done the recruiters then decided who they wld like to stay on for psych test and second interviews. out of the 20ppl they chose 12, and btw there was more guys than girls!!!

all in all it was quite a relaxed and straightforward day.....with the exception of the butterflies when waiting to hear who got through to second round. Thankfully i did One more tip is girls and boys presentation, presentation, presentation. girls try to have the hair all back, french roll preferably(as was mentioned by one of the recruiters)and ensure knee length skirt. and as always smile!

So good luck to everyone in brisbane, hopefully the walk in day is nothing like melb!
if anyone wld like anymore info just pm me!
Kathy xo

PS congrats yohan, hope all goes well for your second interview! let me know

i'm too tiered to write properly!

Brisbane interviews... I just got home from the interviews....OVER 1000 turned up to Brisbane people flew in from everywhere. It started at 9am and I arrived at about 7.40am I was one of the first 20 in line! the Video thing didn't start until 12.30pm and then after that it was question time. It seemed like they werent' really asessing us it was just so strange. Anyways I was up at 3.40am and it's 1.25am the following day. I stayed right till the END!!! the interviews didn't not finish until MIDNIGHT!!!! One girl had to miss her flight to melbourne and had to stay somewhere else! she lost her flight :-(

I didn't make it through I think I should have just left my CV in because it wasn't like they did much assessment in the first interviewi ANYWAYS....the people who made it through were all FAB!! :-) and while I waited there I saw JaRule as well as many other great and wonderful applicants :-) The day was SOOOOO TIRING!!!

Emirates Interview's Brisbane

Hello from Sunny brisvagas,

Well what a day. There were some that arrived a 7.30am and didn't leave until close to midnight.

I made it through to the second round but not the third. And left around 8.30pm. For first time applicants it was a very heartbreaking experience but for some of us who have been through an Airline interview before there was alot of scratching of the heads. When I left there was alot of "I can't believe you didn't get through". I didn't come out of the day feeling I achieved anything unlike with Virgin or Eastern Australian Airline which I gain experience and had a great day.

There were only 2 people interviewing 50 unlike Eastern who had 4 people to 18 applicants. Alot better to shine and express your experience.

There where people from all backgrounds, culture and job wise. Their process of elimination baffled most of us, as many have said in the past. And there is no age limited, as about 3 people in the third round were over 35.

There were girls in all different colours of suits and alot with skirts and shoes that were inappropriate but still made it through to the second and third rounds.

So although a neat appearence was appropriate, short skirts were ok, some people who got through to the third round were well spoken and others were a little less elegent. Very different from Australia were the airlines are looking for people who are very well presented, well spoken and have years of customer service experience. So remember they are an Airline who's recuiting system is very different from ours.

They had in mind what they wanted. There were alot of people who had a large amount of customer service experience and were well travelled but didn't make it through.

You can only be yourself and if they want you they want you if they don't the don't.

Only the first 50 people were given a number and the rest were shown a 20 min video on Emirates and were asked to apply for the next round of Interviews in 5-6 months.

They are recruiting in Sydney and New Zealand now so if anyone has anything they would like to ask me please send email to. And be prepared for a very long day.

EMIRATES

Now that I have more sleep I can post a more detailed and accurate report on the Emirates walk in interview in Brisbane.

The day was VERY long! You got very tiered and ladies...how the hell do you survive wearing those shoes all day????

What baffled me was that there only 2 interviewers doing the assessments when there tonnes of people ...I think about 50 or so! So unless there were spies around I think the 2 interviewers would have had a very difficult job analysing applicants in the group activies. EG 20+ people with one applicant in the group activities. It would have been VERY challenging for people that made it through the screenings until midnight! Keep cool....alive..fresh and presentable would have just been WHOA! But I guess when you are flying...you are going to just have to get used to it!

All the people who made it through were really nice. Perhaps some didn't dress as elegeantly to most Australians or perhaps those who were invited were not required to dress in 'business attire'. They were all very nice and sooo friendly. There was one guy that made it through and he felt so sad that so many other wonderful people had to be screened out. Perhaps luck may have been on his side...the interview was on his Bday!!! CONGRATS!!! :-)

My advice to anyone else applying is not going to be ANY different to anyone else that has posted a message. BE YOURSELF!!!! make sure you dress smartly and smile be friendly and encourage others speak.

In the end you must understand that Emirates are an oversease based airline and they are looking for different qualities to match the criteria they are provided with. PLEASE dont feel that just because you were screened out you wont get in! OR if it was your first airline to apply to....dont think that all airline interviews are the same!

If anyone has any questions please feel free to send a private message me.

THANKS :-)

Hey cabinboy thanks for your support! we greatly appreciate it! - it's people like you that help inspire us to keep going at it and persevere. It's nice to know that ones that have made it through are still encouraging others going through what they have already experienced.

Where to next for Emirates?

Hey amyyma13 and Mike

Thanks for the great information! Certainly sounds like a long hard day.

Where are they interviewing next? Sydney? $64.00 question - does Emirates employ people who are married? Or do they prefer their crews to be single?

Cheers and hope you guys have managed to catch up on some sleep.

Thanks for the support. Allthough I have been successful recently with a regional Airline I think I am geeting addicted to going to Interviews and cant wait for the next one.

On the day I was emaculatly dressed and can not think of a single thing that I regret but was not chosen which means there is something else in store for me.

Regarding the question about their preference to being married or single. They much prefer you to be single as you are going over alone but they do not find that information out until you reach the fourth interview and still you don't have to tell the truth, unless you want your family with you then there would be a problem as they do not sponsor visa's for family.

I think it's not until the end of your contract which is 3 years that you are able to move out and rent a house, I could be wrong.
