MissM
I too have respect for MissM even though I disagree with her position, we need balance on this forum and in fairness she defends her opinions well (even tho I disagree with some of them)

I actually agree with HK Cabin Crew case, but why is it a shame on BA? and what does it have to do with BASSA wanting to bring the company down?
The crew concerned signed a contract like you, BA tried to uphold their side and make them retire at 45 (I disagree with this as it seems you do) sensibly the crew member put it to a court and won, well done.
If BASSA lose in court in February will you respect the courts decision? Or will you try and character assassinate the Judge like has happened in the past, then go on strike?

We believe that BA management are setting up a ‘Professional Cabin Crew Council’ and have had reports of members being sent anonymous emails regarding the setting up of this council. If you receive any emails or correspondence please pass them onto us in confidence so that we can find out who is behind this venture.
I will not be discouraged from being part of this council, no matter what BASSA have to say about it! In fact, quite the opposite.

Don't worry AtlasDrawer, it's just "The BASSA Way", and only goes further to show just why we need the PCCC.

As in, argue points instead of making remarks about your opponent.
A spate of personal jibes and childish insults has just resulted in tread-bans for a number of people from both camps.

I doubt that BA could enter into a voluntary recognition agreement with the PPPC as it would be difficult to define a bargaining group. The PPPC would not be able to apply to the Central Arbitration Committee, even if they could prove 10% membership, due to the fact that Unite are already recognised for negotiating rights with BA.
BA could serve notice on the agreement though, but as it stands, Unite could prove 50% +1 membership, so allowing them to regain recognition.
The PCCC would not have to worry about how or on what terms they could negotiate, as they would have no negotiating rights under law.

Well, BA certainly don't hang about; I volunteered yesterday, and my course starts on Monday. This made me laugh:
Yes, Lurker, the fulfilment of a dream; I've always wanted the job, but had to settle for being a pilot instead. However, I certainly intend to make the most of my "playtime"!
I am looking forward to it, although, hopefully, it won't actually come to a strike, especially if these rumours of a feeble attendance at yet another racecourse are true.
I hope you enjoy your 'play day' - obviously seems like a lot of people hanker after being Cabin Crew - I'm assuming most of you failed to get via the normal route and this is the fulfillment of a dream.

Does BASSA actually trust absolutely no-one in the whole universe? PWC, the judiciary, BA management, Amicus (up until a few weeks ago), BALPA, Other BA departments, and now the Professional Cabin Crew Council!!
Thankyou, BASSA. You flatter us. Actually we are not BA management. As I have written on every single post that I have made on this forum:
I am a BA cabin crew member and the above viewpoint is my own and not that of BA.
We are the Professional (as in prepared to do business) Cabin Crew (we work on aeroplanes) Council (willing to work for the benefit of BA, our customers, and our crew).
We are, in fact, exactly what it says on the tin.
EMAILS FROM 'THE PROFESSIONAL CABIN CREW COUNCIL'
We believe that BA management are setting up a ‘Professional Cabin Crew Council’ and have had reports of members being sent anonymous emails regarding the setting up of this council. If you receive any emails or correspondence please pass them onto us in confidence so that we can find out who is behind this venture. This ‘Council’ is not a recognised trade union and if crew join it they will not have the safety and security of being in a proper trade union. Be under no illusion, this ‘Council’ is purely a way of eroding the power of your union (the largest in the UK.) The company have clearly got no interest in what you as a crew member think about your job.

Firstly, they were a recognised union, the AEEU. Now this may not be true, but if I remember, it was LGW that drove CC89 post BA's merger (it is still hard to say takeover as I was BCAL!) with British Caledonian, so you could easily define a bargaining group by geographical location.
Employment law has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years too.

Miss M, you have hit the nail on the head here:
Cabin crew feel that they have to choose between BA and the Union. They are made to feel that their cards will be marked if they don't. Just look at the childish remarks on here accusing us of being "teachers' pets", and now we're management, simply because we don't want to destroy the company we work for.
We're not. We're cabin crew. We love our jobs and we want to keep them thankyou.
Why not have a Union (or Council ) AND a company that work together, for the benefit of both parties? Why not stop this outdated and outrageous intimidation that dictates that if you don't support BASSA you're a ....what was it again Miss Malone?
Why not stop the Union VS BA and instead have a Council FOR BA? We will still be represented. We will still ensure that our employment rights are not breached. We will still ensure that we get the best possible terms given the current market conditions.
This is not a battle. It is real life and you only get one shot at it. This is our company, and we must save it. Let's work together with BA to find solutions. Would it really be so bad if we did?
I am BA cabin crew (yes really BASSA) and this is my own viewpoint and not that of BA.
Of course they are. BA has its faults. BASSA has its faults. Nobody is perfect but when it comes to choosing, or should I say relying on, between these two BASSA is the winner.

Me too Litebulbs! I was BCal but I remember it differently. CC89 was set up at LHR by two disgruntled BASSA reps. They were advised by someone in BALPA throughout the process and affiliated to the Engineers union. It may have been Mid-Fleet that was the catalyst as they certainly could never agree on that subject (and some of the founding reps were on Mid-fleet). There was an interesting punch up by the Mid-fleet maildrops just before the 1997 strike which resulted in a suspension of one of the BASSA officials. Times don't change much, do they?
Ottergirl,
I bow to your knowledge on this. It was a long time ago and I must have made an incorrect assumption, as it was only a year after the harmonious joining of the two company's!
