Thumbs down Qantas is a joke......what's the address for Virgin OZ

QF has alot to answer for. I made it through all 3 stages of interviews last Oct. Sat for the psych. test, passed the physical and spent all up $400 to be a FA. They were supposed to recruit 500 people out of over 15000 people who applied and only hired 20 casuals. Can you believe it? They even cashed the cheque I sent them for the security check 6 weeks after they told me I was unsuccessful. Very arrogant and very unprofessional!!!Who knows the address for applications for Virgin Australia? Such a frustrating experience!

well,
you are not alone,i know 3 people taking QF to court.
They are definitely not pros, but cons, they like big advertising, and make themselves really big, but then again they are the only Australian airline INT, and are have great political influence.

Tarantellaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !

I found Qantas interviewers different to virgin ( virgin was better ) , however..remember that in november last year when QF recruited they had 16,000 people turn up on one day alone in Sydney. Would you be smiling after that ?
I wouldn't go as far as to bag Qantas though cool emirates, their process did seem effective in getting rid of the trash.

Glad you know, Qantas sucks! I have been with them for many years and the airline has been going down hill. Staff treatment is poor and your case is not on it's own. Go for Virgin, I know I would in your situation.

Good luck to you and just remember not all of us are like the ones in Qantas you encountered.

Question

Ms Kangaroo...obviously managment is not popular with internal staff as well! Are you a FA with Qantas? Are they recruiting again this year?

Cabinbunny,

Word on the street is that another 400 are to be recruited this year ( from a trustworthy source )..also the QF regionals are recruiting, I have an interview shortly with one of them.

Hang in there ! we will get in soon ! ....cabinbunny..." Mr Seatback " is also like you and me...maybe we should organise our own little cabin crew party for " wannabe's ".

Cabinboy,

A reliable source??? It amazes me that they would recruit externally again when they had over 10,000 people apply and approx. 750 made it through to the final round and had to do medical tests etc. You would think that they would have enough to pick from the Oct. cattle calls & final round rather then spend time and money going the selection process again. I heard recently that the reason only a handful (ie. 20) were hired this year was because QF was supposed to secure 5 new boeings, but this fell through and so only 20 were hired....?? What do you think?

QF as of next month are receiving the the first of 10 767-300's leased from BA....they did recruit more than 20. I think that about 200 were in fact hired.

Send me an email cabinbunny

QF is doing major recruiting offshore.
Can virtually hire 3 Thai based crew - for the price of one Aussie...

Tarantella,

Good to see Qantas endorsing the Australian product....with aircraft maintenance and FA being handled overseas. Do they still call Australia home?

Ohhhh sum disgruntled little applicants out there !!

For those who are interested:

QF has put over 100 through MEL alone since the 'cattle-calls' last year(plus more in SYD, and more planned). Training schools going through now, next month, and the next few months.

Yes some of the new employees are casual (half and half at the moment....but plenty more casuals to follow)

No new interviews are (apprarently) planned this year due to a huge amount of people on the 'Short-List'from the last interviews.

Yes, QF is getting several B767-300 a/c leased from BA...first arriving next month.

If you don't like the way QF recruits, may I suggest you apply for other airlines?? There's no point getting mad about the recruitment process....it's their call. If you want the job, you have to do it they way they want to do it....with well over 16,000 applicants - they can afford to be choosey !! Use it as a learning expereince !!

BTW, I know of people who flew from PER 3 times, did their medicals and were still unsuccessful. There were also people who flew in from London, America, Hong Kong and Dubai....imagine how much they spent !!!

Good Luck to you, but it is a waste of time getting upset about how a company chooses to recruit their staff....you can't change it !!

So how long did it take you to get hired Evacu8 ?? ...did you go through the demoralising process many many times like a lot of people out there ?

Or were you one of the those who " back then " filled out an application form and got hired on the spot ??

Things have changed and I know it is the company's choice as to who they hire and how, but for people out there who want to give their all to an airline and work hard sometimes you need to let your frustrations out because it is so hard to achieve your deam :

No offence intended

It's people like you that really get to me when what you should be doing is trying to help and encourage people like cabinbunny and cabin boy to pursue a career that they obviously can only dream about at the moment.

The way you talk, anyone would think that you recruit both FAs and tech crew for this now 25% owned foreign company. QF is rife with nepotisn, especially on the tech crew side, denying many young people the opportunity to pursue a career because family and friends get priority. Just make a few enquiries if you think I'm wrong!

I have no axe to grind as I'm now retired having pursued a great career in aviation.....and I'd do it all again tomorrow......but then again with people like you, I'd most probably fail the aptitude test for arrogance which I understand is now a pre-requiste to get into some areas of aviation!!

I'm sorry you guys seem to be bitter about missing out on a job with Qantas or whoever.
Maybe you should take it that you may not be suitable for the job. I cant see how you can blame a prospective employer for not hiring you! From what I've seen there are lot of different jobs to be done with an airline.
I realise from reading your previous posts you sound desparate to get this job and maybe you come across as "too keen", who knows.

Who are u talking about? I for one don't need a job.....I'm too involved sailing my yacht and spending all my retirement money. I just like to support young people who are trying to pursue aviation careers, but seem to get the regular "kick in the guts".

I understand Virgin is only paying F/As $25000. Surely QF/AN is worth pursuing for the superior money. Virgin are well known for paying peanuts but using the trumped up image of RB to keep the staff feeling wanted.

Thanks wonder woman....I will need it ! The competition is WAY tough !

Another point I might like to add is also about the "recruiters", maybe desperation somtimes does show which I think may have been a possible fault on my behalf during 1 interview, but, the thing was that in both interviews I have attended for 2 different airlines I have not been interviewed by a current or former flight attendant...yep thats right... At the QF interview it was a chick with a HR degree and at Virgin another chick with a HR degree from an outsourced recruitment agency and the other recruiter a former IT manager for an overseas airline...I am sure that these people knew what qualities to look for in a person for the position seen as though they know so much about flight attending and what type of person it takes to handle the position
( said in a sarcastic tone ).

So to hell with anyone who calls cabinbunny , myself or any other wannabe f/a's " disgruntled " !!!

Red face

Thank you Cabinboy for defending my honour & to gear_up for your encouraging positive thoughts.

As for you, evacu8.....well what can I say?? We're not disgruntled....just extremely disappointed. It's hard to pursue a career and maintain enthusiasm in an industry limited by only a handful of players....And with only a few recruitment drives held each year it is a very time consuming process. I'm passionate about being an FA. How about some encouragement. Don't take your position for granted!!!
