birds2perches,
i totally disagree with the notion that qantas has customer service that is second to none. I have flown with them on several occasions over the past couple of years and quite frankly i have recieved a standard of service that i would expect to recieve from a 15 yr old at the local kfc drive thru!! I appreciate that the nature of the job is primarily safety, however it doesnt take much to give good service at the same time.

Go Girl...thank you for your informative feedback and spot-on comments...alot of valid points. Great to get an insiders perspective

As for you Fill...I have thought of the possibility of going O/S. I love travelling and do so every year... but I really want to be based in OZ.

Bird2perches....I have to agree with Hue Jorgan. I travel o/s every year and know alot of people who do so for business and pleasure. That KFC comment was hillarious and accurate. Everybody knows that if you want great service...you fly the Asian Airlines...they're the best. .
Although there are exceptions to the rule at QF...(and you may be one of them) the majority of the FAs seem to have major attitude problems...why is that? is it too many years in job? Time to let in some new, young, fresh, happy talent?

Everyone's entitled to their opinions. I'm English and I've worked in DXB for 5 years with EK and am now with BA - hence my experience of working with crew from all sorts of other airlines. I've flown to Oz with QF a number of times and have always very much enjoyed the great Aussie hospitality - nothing is too much trouble, but then I'm sure others have had a different experience. As we know, it does depend of the crew. I don't agree with your comment stating that some of us have flown too long hence the attitude. I certainly love my job and I know the majority of crew I fly with do as well. However, it would appear from some of the postings here, that those of you that have been for interviews (several times) and have not got in, are frankly resenting the older crew in general -why should we move out? If the pay is good and the job is fun, would you? Blameing the airline for it's recruiting proceedures doesn't help you either. Don't take it the wrong way folks - I just think a positive outlook would steer you in a far better direction towards success in this field. It's highly competitive and personalities count. Theres no point having a go at anyone or any airline. Perhaps you ought to have a look at your own attitudes because believe me, it shows in interviews!! Just keep trying and for godsake lighten up a bit. Take some sound advise from those of us who've been around a while.

How strange Cabin_bunny. Having read all your postings, I thought you desperately needed to buy a sence of humour yourself. I take my hat off to your physic powers as well for being able to analysis other peoples poisonalities over the net - or do I need to ask you to call off the private investigator hanging out of the tree in my back garden? I do hope that the people who recruit for QANTAS are not as in tune as you are, otherwise, you'll never get it. Don't take the 'dry' comment from me the wrong way petal. I genuinely wish you, cabinboy and all the others the best of luck.

Well done cabinboy, I think you'll find it much easier to get into flying from within QF, than from off the street !!

Advice.... QF keeps records on basically every move you make, no matter where you work in the company, from how you wear your uniform, to how you interact with other staff and other departments.

If you want to get into flying with QF, keep your nose clean, keep your ear to the ground and try to meet as many cabin crew as possible, as it's cabin crew who do the interviews ( and a good reputation goes a long way in QF!!)

Have fun, I'm sure you'll enjoy working for QF (staff travel benefits kick in at six months of employment now, not 12 months as it used to be !!!)

Congrats, see you in the galley sometime

I just recently flew QF from Cairns to London (and of course, return). I found the service to be fine. Nothing was a problem and all my requests were met cheerfully. Must admit, I think the trick was to be polite and pleasant to the crew. It worked for me, I can't see why it can't work for others.
I just treat people as I want to be treated. It really isn't hard at all.
Thank you Qantas.

Just a bit of info... I spoke to Qantas this morning regarding their short list & they openly admit to over estimating the required number of applicants. Also they are running both shorthaul & longhaul courses this month & also for July...all courses have been filled until then ( only 16 in each course)....and that was all they could tell me.

Question

Hi there, I praying that someone out there has some realiable info about what the hell is going on with Qantas!!!!! I've been on their short list since Feb ( along with what seems to be half of Australia) and I've heard nothing. If anyone knows anything please share it with me..............thanxs

sickbag26...I'm not sure about longhaul, but shorthaul have just appointed a large number of flight attendants to inflight trainer positions, which makes me think they are expecting to start lots of new flight attendants this year. Hang in there, I'm sure the wait won't be too long.
The only problem is that they are offering lots of new crew "casual" as opposed to "full time" positions. The pay and conditions are still pretty good, but obviously you don't have the income security, and also no staff travel.
Goodluck.

Question

Lara croft,

Do you or anybody else out there know the number of hours you do as a part time or a casual flight attendant. Obviously, you have to do additional jobs to survive. How does the roster work for these positions.

Cabin_bunny...Casual flight attendants have no limit on the hours they can work per month. They are bound by the shorthaul award in so much as duty hour limitations per day and rest breaks between duties. How much work they do really depends upon how much they want to work and how much work is available. Casual flight attendants let crewing know which days they are available and crewing allocate them any uncovered flying. The good thing about being casual is that you do not have to accept any duty that you don't want and the pay for when you do work is very good!!! However you do not get any holiday or sick pay.
From what most casuals have told me, there is work pretty much any day they want it.

Part-time is totally different and in order to qualify for part time you need to be full time first and then put your name on a very long list.

Sickbag26...A new recruit recently told me that he thought there may be about 300 already on the shortlist, but I do not know with any certainty if that is right. I hope you get good news soon.
