Thumbs up

Hey xwardair,
I'm going to the bash too...probably by bus or train from London. I get in that day so I think I'll be sleeping on the way there ;-)
No Idea where I'm going to stay though.
Do you have any thoughts?

Question

Ah no, xwardair, I'm a newbie pilot, and one of those irritating airline passengers who always wants to visit the cockpit.

I'm a Vancouverite, though, and just curious enough about how many PPRuNers of all sorts we could draw to a YVR event, that I'd try it, if I had a co-conspiritor.

Hi xwardair!

Same roots as me. When were you in YYZ? That's my base still. Flying domestic only though (by choice). Couldn't hack waking up wondering where am I after consuming a not so modest number of pints shortly after landing in LGW and other European points. I just give my foreign shopping list to the brave souls that still enjoy the long haul. Would love to attend any getogether in future but I'm grounded right now on medical. Keep me in mind!

Hey Flygirl............I worked in YYZ around the mid-late eighties. How about you. Sorry to hear you are grounded. Who are you working for now? I think we should be this bash going.

Perhaps we should post, a post looking for all xwardair employees.........who knows Max may even attend. It was such a great compnay with so many great people, it would be so great to see everyone again.

what do you think about posting something like that?

Cheers

Hi back xwardair!

I started in 1974 so I'm sure I've breathed over your shoulder in one cockpit or another. Presently I'm a CAIL CSD awaiting the time I can call myself a AC F/A. I almost used the handle Skybag but figured why give in to this conveived status. I'm still young at heart and immature in my actions when out of uniform. Looks aren't everything, right?

I think a post and word of mouth of any organized get together of exWD people would be great. There hasn't been one in 7 years (in YYZ) that I am aware of. I recently attended a milestone ceremony sponsored by CAIL and it was fascinating to see the attendees graviate and park themselves at tables dominated by people that shared their original livery. Although all in attendance knew each other it was like we had been born from the same womb and had a special bond that no merger/acquisition could eradicate and this unconscious concept drew us together on this occassion. Does that make sense?

Inviting Max? We might have to consider extra security. Many employees, especially from the pilot group, have yet to forgive him for the "betrayal" of 1989. But hey, I'm game. I danced with him in 1974 (while Marjorie held my drinks)and I'm ready to spin him around the floor again if he's still on his feet. Actually I should have been fired for the previously mentioned incident in 1974 but I talked my way out of it.

I slip the surly bonds of earth tomorrow to enter la-la land by way of surgery so I might not get back to you right away. Herniated disc: God bless passengers and their pleas for help with their "this is too heavy for me to lift" bags. I am practising NO CAN DO and NO MORE MR. NICE GUY for when I get back into the work force.

Okay Wardair reunion: what city do we start with?

Flygirl,
CSD?
"NO CAN DO"
I feel for you about the bin luggage,
but is that the way to keep the salary paying SLF coming back?
All the best with the surgery though.Really.
I think Max is in Yellowknife.

Talking

Hey Flygirl, how do you get Marjoire to handle your drinks........and even dance with him, good for you. Yes I hear Max is living in Yellowknife........still driving though, he own his own challenger at 76 not bad for old guy eh. I was thinking about tis WD Bash, how many ex Ward's out there in YYZ? I am here in YVR, and really don't know whose around, but I will start a new topic and lets see who we get.........
Sorry, to hear about the back, and yes I know what you mean about lifting, especially with wardair eh!

I myself got caught up with that merger, and was offered sh!t flying and too many damm layoffs. So I went seeking for greener pastures

What happened in '74 I was caught up in a mess in 88 out of Preswick, ever heear about that one, got suspended and everything, was not a pretty scene. I had the damm union rep on board who though he was doing us a favour. NOT.

Anyways, hope you have a speedy recovery and spread the word about the WARDAIR Bash.
I know exactly what you were speaking about re your party and the Wardair people, it sure did felt like we were merging from the womb. sort of speak.

Talk to you soon.

Exclamation

Rollingthunder: CSD stands for Customer Service Director otherwise known in the industry as Purser, In-charge, Head-Honcho, Chief Biscuit Shooter or whatever you wish to call the position. Thanks for your kind thoughts for my messed up back.

qfcabin: Indeed I participated in a few of those layovers. We all tried to be so conscience (even when we were unconscious) of living by the established honour rule when drinking there. Many mornings it was easier to speed wabble to the sea (beach) that to tackle the momentous chore of finding your hotel room. Besides, the ringing of that darn church bell didn't sound so loud from there. Thank you for that introduction to local "culture".

xwardair: Marjorie had no choice but to take my drinks or maybe it was reflex action to do so when I thrust them out at her (I kinda had one in each hand at the time). Max graciously (me not so graciously) did a turn around the floor. The occasion was a marketing/sales promotion party that we as F/A's in training were invited to. I did it on a dare while bolstered with ample false courage. Fortunately Max and spouse were in a genial mood and other than a few "you really shouldn't have"...kind of lectures the next Monday in class, I got away with my antics. I walked softly for a long time after that.

I remember well the Preswick incident. On the 747; refusal to arm doors correct? The union rep. you wrote of I believe was Chris H. who coincidentally is a good friend of mine today. Although your crew went through a very rough time, your jobs were reinstated and all crew involved were vindicated. No he didn't do any of you a favour emotionally or mentally but his stance (all of yours)was right and desperately needed to prove that crews would no longer tolerate being held captive. Consider that you were a pioneer for employee rights. That case is still quoted as a consequence and it's precedent is held up as a warning to airlines today. No other situation close to that ever happened again at least not at WD. Prior, it was a regular incident so please believe that some good came from your angst. I think Brian P. still carries the emotional scars. Yes, he's still around and as devoted as ever.

My surgery was done Friday night and all came out well. The ruptured part of the disc was wedged nicely right against the nerve feeding my right leg. Out damn spot and it was done. Another 6 weeks and I can hit the skies again. YeeHaw!! Thanks for cheering for me.

Hey Flygirl........Yes you guessed right, it was the incident regarding the doors not being armed. I went through alot for that trip, but I am glad to hear that this case is still quoted and that that the example is taken into consideration for all other crews they now fly today. Brian, yes I remember him warmly, what is he up to these days. Is Chris still flying, you mentioned he is a good friend of yours, that great. You wouldn't be by any chance, the Union Rep that wardair had when that incident happened would you? I remember dealing with a lady and can't seem to remember her name. Wardair did finally get me in the end, perhaps one day I will see you in person and tell u what happened, since this is a public forum I don't think it would be suitable. Its great that you have stayed in touched with everybody, I have not see anyone out here from Wardair at all, sure do miss those guys.

A speedy recovery to you............
talk to u soon.

Hey spread the word around for the Wardair Bash.........

Cheers

Hmm, where's my message? Maybe flood control ate it.

"When" depends on how ambitious we're going to get, and how much lead time is required for people to make it.

I posted to Aircrew Notices to check who might be interested in coming. Why don't you post a follow up to my message, inviting ex-Wardair people to make it a reunion.

I have about 320 hours right now. I'm still looking for that first job.
