Angry My silly daughter !

How's this for sheer stupidity ! My 19 yr old daughter tried and was accepted for training as a FA with virgin Express. She QUIT training after three days. Is she normal in that she doesn't do things which are tiresome, boring, difficult, require effort etc etc?

Skytrucker,

Firstly Congrats, If I had a 19 yr old daughter I certainly would not let join an airline. On the job side of things and everything to do with life, I only moved out of my parents home about 2 yrs ago and only then did I relise what I had so easy and what I now have to do for myself. Mortgage, car, bills, social life etc.

I never advocated this but if she lived on her own its the kind of life experience you cant buy.

Good Luck

Question

Hey AB,
Might I enquire as to how you prevent an adult (which she legally is at 19) from taking up a perfectly acceptable and in fact highly desirable job position?
~just a question...~

and skytrucker: It isn't a job that suits everyone. Better that she decided now after three days training than got out online and became one of those flight attendants that you hear everyone complaining about!

Thank you both for your opinions. I guess in the heat of the moment I got a little carried away. I have had some really POed flight attendants working behind me and I agree that they are a liability both to the Company and to the rest of the flight crew. Maybe the Airline Industry got away lightly !

Hey,Skytrucker ! I get the feeling I recognise your name. You never even told me you were married far less that you had a daughter !! (just kidding !) seriously, if your daughter quit at that early stage then she would probably have failed the course anyway. It's easier to drop than be pushed. If you are the same guy that flew 737 based STN please mail me !

Skytrucker,

As suggested, she may have decided early that this was not the life for her. I certainly would HATE to be cabin crew, but each to their own.

To answer your question though, in my experience it's 19 year old blokes who won't do anything requiring the least effort etc, as the ladies tend to be a little (generally!!) more mature by that age.

Best of luck to her anyway, whatever she chooses to do.

Tarantella,

Personally I would be afraid to have a daughter as I would never let her out of the house, in my job you see a lot of 13,14,15 yr olds doing what they should not be doing.
P.S. Sorry I missed you in Paris last week. x

Also curious about 'Latin Flyer', that comment on F/Os, should it not be in Jet Blast? I know totally unrelated topic!

Trucker - they say you have to worry about the daughters 'till they're 18 or so - well mine are around ten years older than that and I still worry about them - especially the elder one, although she's quite capable of looking after herself!! (BTW - that's the one who didn't drop out of hosty school and works in N.America!)

If you love them, you worry !!
