Thanks Leemo for the welcome, most ppl seem either jeoulous or quite negative. I was told I was an outsider and could never get in first try as airlines like ppl to persist. Well my references were checked the past couple of days. I was actually asked for 3.
I don't know the next stage, but I guess I'm doing o.k.....references is normally last thingy.
No matter what anyone says, fixed term is not fixed so all of you negative ppl that get on and try to put ppl down can go and have a sit on the pier and drink with yourself. I was always brought up to be positive, so if the opportunity comes my way and then i'll look at my options later.
Good luck all of you watching this on the side line and don't listen to the crap that a lot of ppl are saying, you can pick the losers amongst the crowd a mile away.

The way I see it, fixed term or not I would still love to work for Qantas!

For your information the so called negative comments you refer to have come from actual Qantas flight attendants, these are the people you will be working with IF you get in. The information you perceive as negative is FACT im afriad its the actual truth, hello!!. I wish you the best of luck but can I suggest you take on board some of this information otherwise it will all end in tears for you im afraid.

Hey has anyone received an sms message saying that Qantas is recruiting flight attendants, your interest has been registered. RIng ****(phone number) between 9-530 today to discuss.

the lack of maturity you are displaying through the contents of your last post doesnt bode well for your future employment as a long haul flight attendant.
Personal attacks of this type made just because someone gives information and facts that you DONT want to hear are unneccesary, unbecoming and infantile.
Those carrying out the recruitment processes are VERY mindful to look for those who posess, "the right stuff".
Dont hold your breath for the job. It seems from your posts at least, that you dont quite have it.

I was initally contacted by QF for an interview in Melbourne on the 12th of August. The e-mail was sent on the 10th of August for an interview on the 12th. I'm currently overseas and didn't even manage to read my e-mail until the 19th of August. I have been in contact with QF and they have now arranged another interview for me on the 24th of September.
My question is to any of you who have attended the assessment day or current QF employees on line in the know, they request that applicants be of a height up to a maximum of 183cm. I come in at 188cm. I was tempted not to waste my time going to the interview as I do not meet QF's height requirement. However reading through the threads it appears that QF may be desperate for candidates and overlook a few cm's. Does anybody have any comments or feedback on this.
I flew for American Airlines in the US for 12 years where the height was of no problem and actually quite a few people I used to fly with were well over 6 foot and don't know for what reason QF imposes this height restriction. In the US it's actually not specified a maximum height restricition. I've lived legally in Australia now for the past 4 years and am quite keen to get back into the airlines but they all seem to have the same height restricitons. However, on several QF flights I've been on, I've noticed some cabin attendants well over 6 foot as well. I speak Italian, German, French and Spanish as well as being mother tongue English and would hope that with the language skills they could over look 5cm's.

They were converted to "main deck" style galleys 10 years or so ago, from memory. So maybe...........???
Your language skills and experience would certainly hold you in good stead.
I've flown with several of the contractors, a couple of whom were ex AN which indicates that industry experience is a big plus.
My concerns for you are they they will "cull" using height BEFORE you get an opportunity to get across what you have to offer.

Just thought you might want to know a friend of mine received a call today from QF asking her to attend an ass centre in Sydney next Friday. They were apparently a bit vague over the phone, also she was driving so the line wasn't great they just gave her details like time, venue etc......
I'm pretty sure its for fixed term long haul.
She hasn't updated her details on staffcv for over a year, they must be really desperate!!
I also really don't understand that if they are so desperate as it appears why would they not contact people who were on the last shortlist like they said they would. It seems very unfair.
I have a couple of friends who were on the list and they have heard didly squat!!

Make sure to slouch like many I'm told QF does not care about height anymore, just need to do it for other reasons. I know of someone that is flying long haul and is 1cm less than you, so go for it!!!

Not being "one of those negative people", but i'm afraid that what GalleyHag and Left2primary are saying is true. Have had friends who have been invited to L/H assesment days for a fixed term position and have all be told there is no job at the end of the contract. Even current casuals were given the chance to apply for a L/H fixed term position, but i don't think many did as there is definately no job at the end. The airline industry is a little different to other industries. It's a fantastic opportunity to get the experience and to enjoy it, but don't take the position based on the fact you'll be made permanent at the end, because i think you'll be very disappointed. But good luck and fingers crossed for anyone who accepts a position, i hope its what you expected!!!

Everybody seems to think that everyone wants to work for QF until their death bed.
6 mths, 9mths who cares, gr8 experience travel the world and get paid, but I and others need to get to next stage first, so I won't jinx myself, still eagerly waiting.

qantas fixed term
yeah.. did the qf assesement ctr in syd 3sep04. Fee l very confident have almost 10yrs with another airline as ground staff.
BUT.......what a let down to everybody as they finished with" this contract is UPTO 11mnths and not renewable".
How can they think that people would just jump to their whistle.
I am really surprised that QFwould not extend contracts past 11 mnths if u do a good job i.e take no sickies and be a good boy/girl. Any body with any experience or I am trying to fool myself..

The reasons that QF plan NOT to renew any contractors beyond 11 months are that it will then be free to replace you with cheaper offshore labour.
Spent 45 minutes reading the QF cabin crew related pprune threads and all will become apparent.
The only hope that contractors like yourself have beyond 11 months is the FAAA and it's battle to prevent the "de-Australianization" of QF cabin crew.
Join the FAAA and support us by making yourselves unavailable once our industrial action commences.
We are fighting for your jobs too.
