Can you fly a plane?

I know there are some flight attendants out there that are also able to fly a plane....some with a ppl...commercial pilots license and some who started out as cabin crew to save up and go onto flight crew!

MAKE YOURSELVES KNOWN!!!! :-)

I've got a few hours up my sleeve ( 15hrs actually ) but I still wish to further my career path as cabin crew, not tech crew. I actually think sometimes it helps having a few hours under your belt because when the tech crew talk shop over drinks you can actually understand what they are on about !

I have my flying quals also.... Haven't flown much of late though - my full time job keeps me chained to the desk and the weather in Melbourne hasn't been conducive to flying (no surprises there though!)....

No real desire to fly as tech crew, just enjoy flying and look forward to flying as cabin crew when it eventually happens....

And ya all know the saying.... Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.....

do pilots appreciate it?

it's really fantastic hearing about cabin crew that have experience flying. it really means you have a great understanding of aircraft and have a great appreciation of what the guy in the flight deck have to do.

Do you guys find that the Flight crew appreciate your efforts in flying?

Hmm, I remember flying the jump seat from London to Berlin a few years back and the pilots were mildly appreciative of my flying experience (or they could have been humouring the excited pointing I was doing..... ok, ok, it might have been an excited squeal!)

Mind you, I suspect that the aircraft I fly is vastly less sophisticated than the 767 we were on!

Its a shame that events of the past has increased security and necessitated the locking of flight deck doors - many won't get to vist the flight deck ever!

"Systems" wise sure it is.

But a 767 or a J3 cub, add power, go faster / climb higher, pull the stick/yoke and the houses get smaller, push they get bigger ... or pull a lot and they get bigger again Bank left/right.

They're all airplanes.

If you're curious about the 767, there's a great addon for MSFS, called Pic767 published by Wilco. One of the team members that wrote the addon is a real-life 767 pilot.

Angel me 2

Hi all,

I have made the other way around....

I have comlpeted an ATP course and hold a CPL/IR with totally 215hrs. Since my training airline (Crossair) disappeared and was put together with another bancrupt airline (Swissair) I had no chance to step into this new company as F/O as they even had to fire hundreds of pilots.

So I decided to fly anyway, at least as C/C. It was great fun and I spend many hours on the flightdeck and the jumpseat for T/O and LDG. After 10 months in the company I was kicked out as C/C, too due to costsaving.

I moved back home (Berlin) and gonna help easyJet starting up from Germany (SXF) as C/C, too.

The market is rough for newbee´s and without "knowing someone else in the business" you can almost forget it, to find a vacant RH seat for low-houred pilots. And if you do so, one has to pay the typerating and linetraining, too (mostly by the newbee, as there are enough willing to do so as well).

On some days it is really frustrating when you board the plane as crew and then you have got to turn right at the entrance in the cabin other than your secret wish to finally turn left at the door into the flightdeck....

But anyway I do never hope that one of the pilots gets this "magic foodpoisining-caused incapacitation".

On 99% of my flight I inform the flighdeck about my flying knowledge.

who else can fly?

In one of my recent cabin crew interviews there was talk about one of the applicants being a pilot. Everyone kept asking if it was one of the guys and in the end it turned out that it was actually was one of the ladies!

Come on guys...who else can fly a plane???

Are there any other ladies out there who can fly?

Hi Guys,

First time post here, but finally got around to joining up anyway. Still - I am a PPL holder with just over 70 hours in the logbook - would have hoped to have done some more tomorrow, but the weather is not looking to promising. All this talk about newbies though... I was born in April 1984 :-) However, would love to be a pilot when I'm older, at the moment though I'm studying (allegedly) in university in the really random degree subject of History and Politics Not sure where it will take me...

Thought that as the topic was about flying planes I'd drop my first post!!

Hi guys and girls,

Much the same as Rogu, Frozen ATPL with 260 hours, but not yet cabin crew. Have an interview with Thomas Cook on Saturday. At the end of the day, just being up there makes me happy.

Flying...

Am not CC but a pretty regular SLF who's done about 10 hours or so.... hoping for more....

once was going to be my career but due to stuff mentioned on other threads am now hoping to be back in business as ground crew or perhaps even CC..... we'll see.....

Have had some fantastic jumpseat landings in the past, shame 9/11 has ruined it for everyone else

I agree with what was said earlier, you gotta at least try it once to see if you like it (like most things really!)

And it's awesome there are more ladies out there flying (and same goes for the boys chucking bisuits! )

I was workin as Cabin Crew last year albeit having a frozen ATPL/IR, with MCC credits and around 300 flight hours. It was actually airline no.4 for me - having been a cabin crew before leaving the job for flight training.

Out of a job, the question was: go for a dispatcher job for £600/month gross or a senior Cabin Crew job (because of my previous Cabin experience) for £1800 gross/month?

I chose the latter, but the job has changed a lot since I last did charter, and boy, was I tired every day!

I also had the urge to turn left instead of right on boarding, all the more since we don't get to do cockpit visits any more (even if we had the time) because of locked cockpit door policy etc. Plus, being the no.2, it can be a long way from the back of the plane to the flight deck!

Cheers

insomniamaniac

Flyblue were you referring to me? About why i'm always up so late? Most of my posts are between 0000 and 0300 hrs. Simply because I'm practically nocturnal and have insomnia. Most of my great ideas happen at this hour and it stops me from sleeping. I should be called nightflyer!!!

I'm really impressed at the amount of c/c who have tried flying. I guess it gives you a great perspective when working onboard, it can be just amazing to see how much work the tech crew have to go through in some of the shortest flights.

Ladies that are currently in the flightdeck??? Did you guys find it difficult to get where you are??? Is it easier now? was it more difficult in the past?

Heh...

This is OT, but anyway...

what a contradictory sentence....

Ladies that are currently in the flightdeck??? Did you guys find it difficult... etc
Ladies & guys in one sentence.

Im sorry, QF, not making fun, just up late and laughing at anything remotely unusual

I'm FD and female, however, I haven't been a FA. (I have done a similar role in non CC airlines though. ie briefed the pax, handed out the chow, shut the door and then hopped in the front seat and did pilot stuff).
While there are one or two out there that don't like female pilots, I find that they generally have a problem with life any way. I have had more negative comments from the public. Although, the positive comments far outweigh those negative ones.

GUYS!

Redsnail thanks for your post! That's another interesting experience to be in. Working behind the yoke and handing out the chow.

I agree with you about the negative ones that are just simply not worth knowing in life. I'm quite proud of you!!!

* guys i'm sorry about my terrible sentences...I should spend more time correcting and proofreading what I type but after 16 hours being awake and doing double shifts at 1am in the morning I get a bit soggy in the brains...but it's cool I can sit back and laugh at it so no worries...GUYS! LOL
